Lots of mining in the San Juan Mountains near here. From my camping trip last month. Kind of a gloomy day, but beautiful.

Still hard to believe, but #10YearsAgo we climbed the highest mountain of the European #Alps: #MontBlanc (4808m)
In a two-day ascent, we started from Nid d'Aigle (2365m) up the adventurous path until the Refuge du Goûter (3835m).
I did not sleep well, started at 4:00 up to the summit, in full moon, so no headlamp needed. While some climbers suffered (puking...), we could enjoy every step, even if it was very cold (but crystal-clear air).
Nonstop descent of 2500m 😎

Alta was the "residential community" for miners working the Gold King mines farther up the mountain. Spectacular scenery in this area.

Along the route, we chose checkpoints where we need a certain altitude to safely continue flying towards Villadossola. Additionally, we memorized a few emergency landing spots based on satellite imagery and other maps that were in glide range along the route.
All 5 of us reached the official landing zone between Domodossola and Villadossola with a big smile! After eating gelato, we took the train back to Switzerland.

And finally: A looong glide (plus two thermals) from the Weissmies peak (4017m) down to Domodossola (240m).
That flight took a bit of planning. The direct route over Passo di Pontimia would have been shorter, but the Valle di Bognanco looks pretty unlandable. So we took the slightly longer route via Passo d'Andolla and the Valle d'Antrona.

Camping at George Lake, #KillarneyProvincialPark in the autumn was magical. It didn't matter if there was bright sunshine or mist on the lake as the fall colors were stunning. Knife’s Edge Backpacking: Day 2
With very nervous excitement I traversed Knife’s Edge and summited 7,880 foot Old Snowy Mountain just after sunrise. This was my first time scrambling to the top of a mountain peak and highest mountain summit. The trails in this area are difficult if you’re a little scared of heights like me. Incredible views, so well worth it!

We had great weather, a great company, and an astonishing panorama.

I made it back to Timberline Lodge before sunrise, so I completed the trail in about 49 hours. Took the Mountaineer Trail up to 7,000 feet to see sunrise from above Timberline Lodge. Amazing! First time seeing the Silcox Hut, which was originally built as a warming hut for mountain climbers.

Brokeoff Mountain in #LassenNationalPark in #NorthernCalifornia. Always a treat to see on a hike around #Lassen.
From Wikipedia: Mount Tehama (also called Brokeoff Volcano or Brokeoff Mountain) is an eroded andesitic stratovolcano in the Cascade Volcanic Arc and the Cascade Range in Northern California. Part of the Lassen volcanic area, its tallest remnant, Brokeoff Mountain, is itself the second highest peak in Lassen Volcanic National Park and connects to the park's highest point, Lassen Peak. Located on the border of Tehama County and Shasta County, Brokeoff's peak is the highest point in the former.
