Nothing to blame, but nothing unexpected too :/
The only surprise is that a movie like that can be produced in our days and time.

Na Moonage Daydream jsme chteli jit do letniho kina. Nakonec to z ruznych duvodu nevyslo (trochu tomu pomohl desivy zazitek z Elvise v JBC).

Tak jsme se k nemu dostali ted v ramci filmoveho klubu a byla to parada. Je mi hodne blizka Bowieho filosofie a jeho nahled na spiritualitu. Jsou to dokonale sestrihane momentky a od zacatku do konce se od toho neda odtrhnout.

Very sad to see The Creator flop at the box office. It performed even worse than expected: they expected 16m for the weekend, it did $14m.

This should answer the gripe people have with Hollywood that "they don't make original movies anymore". They don't make them because no one cares to pay for them. Business-wise, it's the right decision, and not their fault.

The fault lies squarely with the audiences who don't want to be "disturbed" by new stuff.

Not a large-scale, somewhat naive work. I can't judge how "cranberry" it is: hell knows what metaphysical means the sides could have used to win #WWII. "In #war, all means are good".

I disagree with the current 6/10 scores. For 55 minutes I could clearly see the people of the three countries (#Russia, #Japan and #Canada) trying and invested in what they were doing. It's just a pity that there won't be a repeat of such attempts any time soon.

Not sure how I've missed the 2015 spy film "Bridge of Spies" by Spielberg with Tom Hanks in the leading role. I just watched it, and it was really good.

Spy movies are generally just so-so in my opinion. This one is less about the spy craft and more about a series of moral dilemmas. First about who is and isn't protected by the law and due process, then on to the question of who is and isn't expendable when powers play chess with people's lives.

Maybe the criteria for a "so bad it's good" #movie is that it has to have heart, rather than just be a cynical cash-grab. The makers' reach exceeded their grasp (or budget).

Plan 9 From Outer Space is an example of the former: Ed Wood was a terribly untalented director with no money, but he genuinely tried to make a good movie. Asylum shark schlock on the other hand is the latter.

Here is my first ever movie review. 🙃

The Sudbury Devil (2023)

Short version: Would recommend this mystery/horror film.

Plot: Two Puritan Magistrates are investigating ungodly events in the woods near Sudbury-town.

Unrated with sexual content, gore, and violence.

The film is set in Massachusetts circa 1680. What make it good is that it's well written, well filmed, and well acted. The actors are all speaking in Original Punctuation (OP), ie, how the English Puritan colonist would actually speak. The OP dialogue is easy to understand and helps fit the movie into it's time period.

Hard part will be finding it. It's an independent film. So the distribution will be limited.

I got to see it via a one-time streaming that is part of the initial release.
