@gregggonsalves @EricReinhart

I called 15 eye doctors a few weeks ago. Half had no masks (not even on staff). Half had staff wearing junk surgical masks (30% effective). They are mass-infecting their patients.

Finally found one where the staff were wearing #N95s.

So that's the rough percentage of doctors who give a damn about patient health: 1 in 15 or 7%.

You're one of the good guys, Gregg.

But the problem is inside the building: yes, most doctors ARE the problem.

#CovidIsAirborne

@Pat We don't promote those over N95s because in the community people are wearing #bettermasks and #n95s without fit testing, where we have data to show results in >90% fitted filtration efficiency in most.

AFAIK, not known if we get additional gains from N99 or elastomerics without fit testing - let me know if you have a reference on this.

For others reading this, the numbers @Pat is quoting are for the masks tested on a machine, glued to a plate around the edges. Fit testing N95s on people in occupational health and safety protocols require >99% protection as fitted filtration efficiency (ie, fit factor >=100). A large proportion of people will achieve this, particularly with novel designs of #BetterMasks like Vitacore's CaN99 and the 3M Aura. Average filtration not-fit-tested is usually reported >90% in lab studies. Studies summarized at https://maskevidence.org/mask-types

@OldeHippi My partner was infected by doctors' offices.

Twice.

There are a tiny number of medical offices with #HEPA filters and #N95s. The rest are committing manslaughter by gross negligence, and hopefully someone will start prosecuting or suing.

As protests intensify again, please keep this in mind -- tear gas exacerbates the spread of #sarscov2. Hopefully we can express our rage at murderous cops and a murderous system while keeping each other safe. Donate #n95s if you can and keep them tight. A #respirator will not only help curb the spread of #covid, but will help you breathe in less of a chemical weapon banned in warzones

Text from the article:

As for the links to COVID-19, a list of 1,288 doctors and health professionals signed a letter earlier this week asking for law enforcement not to use tear gas during protests due to an increased risk for spreading the virus.

"These agents are designed for you to cough and expel from the lungs and they can cause lung sickness," Dr. Peter Chin-Hong, an infectious disease specialist with University of California, San Francisco, told ABC News. "We're focused on COVID-19 risks, the biology, but also the coughing, shouting, transmitting the virus more."

Chin-Hong was among those who signed the letter.

"When you have pepper spray or tear gas it increases the risk of not only potentially COVID-19, but also other respiratory viruses," he said.

Cloth masks are better than nothing if you can't afford a respirator.

MEDICAL OFFICES can afford to buy respirators for their DOCTORS and NURSES in ALL cases. They are not doing so because ??? (malpractice, gross negligence)

#P100s are more comfortable than #N95s, reusable, and cheaper in the long run.

@holmesr @Pat

Hi again. Thanks for the feedback and for engaging, much appreciated.

We think overhead elastic is critical to getting good fitted-filtration (ie, net filtration of a mask on a face). We summarize this here ⬇️

https://maskevidence.org/head-attachments

In North America, #N95s must have overhead elastic simplifying our advice in favour of these over #KN95 or #KF94

There are data on beards, too!

For a 10mm beard, an N95 is still more effective than all other masks.

https://www.nature.com/articles/s41370-021-00337-1

If the stifling feeling is specifically associated with headstraps for you, they could be too tight. Aura 3M has simple band elastic straps that lengthen with a good hard tug. This is a pro in this situation for you.

For straps that don't lengthen so easily, consider an #N95 with braided elastic such as Vitacore's #Can99.

Vitacore's Can99 also has superb breathability so if the problem isn't the attachments, this might help.

Apologies for a N American reply to a European question.

Anyone curating info on #FFP2 or #FFP3 and suppliers please let me know: we would love to put this on our website.

FFE is 80% for KF94, KN95 at 0mm, dropping linearly to 60-70% at 10mm.

FFE is 30-40% for cloth and procedure masks, unchanged across the range of beard lengths studied

And info on finding #N95s here:

https://maskevidence.org/findingn95s

Anyone with resources to add to this page from outside North America including #ffp3 please let me know. (Looking for credible curated lists not single manufacturers.)

@underthestars We're also never going to get 100% compliance with masks.

But with #HEPA, that's OK!

My #N95 mask + enough #HEPA is approximately as effective as Everyone Wears #N95s, for far-field exposure (as opposed to people up in my face).

Given that a portable HEPA filter for a small room costs <$200 it seems very practical.

3) The evidence is overwhelming that proper use of #N95s #N99s, #N100s, or even elastomeric #P100s (or their equivalent) prevents transmission.

A good seal is key. Use double faced skin tape on the inside edges of your mask to prevent leaks if the seal on your mask isn’t perfect.

Safer Celebrations Tip number 3: Have everyone wear an N95, KN95, KF94, or elastomeric mask at all times when indoors.

@Nickittynic There are a bunch of other options if those don't fit, including a bunch of #elastomeric #N95s (a well-fitting #N95 is better than a badly-fitting #P100).

And then there are the significantly more expensive full-face masks which protect the eyes too -- I haven't found one which fits for my family yet, though.

But I think this is enough to start with.

8/x

@joeyfox

FWIW, everyone in my family thinks that #elastomeric #P100s are more comfy and "easier to breathe in" than "disposable-style" #N95s

The "living in fear" narrative is gaslighting speak.

It is an attempt to shame and shun folx who are protecting themselves and others from a deadly and debilitating virus.

I'm not having it!

@han_kyoul Chair spacing doesn't do much by itself, because #CovidIsAirborne and hangs in the air like cigarette smoke or perfume sprayed from a spray can.

Request enough #HEPA filters or #CorsiRosenthalBoxes to clean the air every 5 minutes. Also ask that masks be required, and that #N95s be handed out to those who don't have them.

This actually works. #CovidIsAirborne

Highly recommend you watch this lecture by social epidemiologist Dr. Justin Feldman.

It's called:

How to Hide a Plague: How Elite Capture and Individualism Made Covid Normal.

It explores how the elite successfully influenced public health in America.

There are many parallels that can be drawn to other Western countries.

@hfentonmudd we need government intervention at this point. Mandatory masking with #N95s. Consistent codified air filtration & ventilation guidelines for ALL indoor spaces. Especially schools, hospitals, assisted living, etc. we have so little time to loose

@Eohippa @siderea congrats! Yes! Cigarettes cause significant vascular impairment. I just don’t understand how our government (and those other than China) are able to blatantly IGNORE this info. I have posted significant study after study. Yet those in power have the same access. Where is the action? Literally mandatory masking with #N95s provided by the government WITH instructions would be huge. Plus indoor filtration/ventilation requirements. Students & teacher shouldn’t be exposed everyday 😞

The right mask makes it easy to teach, perform, or speak in public.

Open tunings make it easy to play guitar with just one finger, like I am here - it helps if you change the song a bit!

Apparently Joni Mitchell used lots of open tunings to compensate for weakness in her hand due to polio.

"Why does it have to be us?"

Original song.

While I got on pretty well with these masks (German Hard brand) and wore them throughout 2021, they move back and forth lots and can make you feel breathless - you can hear it in my voice.

If you teach, perform, sing, or need to speak in public, and you don't get on with your mask, try a different one.
