@markgrieveson I agree. Why #Canadians are not intelligent enough to vote #NDP is beyond me. That said the LIBS are better than the #CPC because when caught being racist or sexist, they can sometimes be embarrassed into doing the right thing.
The British Columbia New Democratic Party government is currently bringing multi-plex housing legislation through the BC legislature. These changes will allow 4/6-plexes on single family lots.Get people out of tents & into homes. This is why the BC NDP government was elected -- take action to resolve the housing crisis. Other parties, especially Olsen Greens, would prefer to endlessly navel-gaze while nothing happens. Time has run out for talk. #ndp #cdnpoli #canpoli #housingcrisis #yyj @cgainor
There is no better example of the extreme double standards at play in #Ontario and in #Canada right now: Sarah Jama was censured and removed from the #NDP for supporting #Palestine, while #Conservative MPP Goldie Ghamari has said horrifically Islamophobic things (including that the call to prayer was a “safety risk”) without consequence: #Onpoli

Opposition NDP, First Nation chief want public review of Alberta Energy Regulator
This tweet from John Ivison is a great example of Canadian Media's naïveté refusing to believe that, like Americans with Trump, Poillievre ripping reporters is exactly what a large number of Canadians want to see. Especially the *imagery* of a strong, well dressed man-figure, flanked by two subordinates behind him alongside two Canadian flags, speaking forcefully back to questioning.
Doug Ford creates exactly the same scenes for himself. He's been Premier of Canada's most populous province for 5 years.
Yes, believe it or not, 30-35% of people in Canada really want --whether through unintentional conditioning or not -- to see that and it's more than enough in our voting system to lead to majority power. In order to stop Poillievre's rise, other party leaders need to either present a much more compelling vision and advertise it relentlessly or Poillievre has to do something historically bad to take himself out of the race.
As it stands now, he will be our next Prime Minister and no amount of tutting or navel gazing by media personalities will change that. It may accelerate it.
The video is linked. It has been viewed 300K times and is rife with supportive comments. No doubt many are "boughts", but not all. https://m.youtube.com/watch?si=jUvn-yDDak2FZTmI&v=i9hB0LJ-Dlo&feature=youtu.be
Succeeded here, though.
Shame on Jagmeet Singh for not forcing action over this. He's a Sikh *and* the only thing keeping the #Liberal gov't in power.
@douglaspynn Grosses me out, seeing #indoctrinated #NDP peons literally kiss this asshat ass. Makes me wanna fucking puke. I am keeping notes on who are kissing #neoliberal #BCNDP asses. I like that they are so fucking arrogant & have no idea what's gonna be hitting them, very soon 👍
@douglaspynn Chinatown leader votes will add to angry voters that #BCgovernment has ignored for yrs. That includes more than 50% of Asian voters. We see your weasel ways. We saw how #DavidEby refused to call #ceasefire. Many of us are direct war survivors & others connected to war survivors.
Avec son premier discours du Trône, Wab Kinew mise sur la santé et l’énergie verte
His #ndp govt will be focusing on health care and green energy programs.

#Canadian #MembersOfParliament spent more than $14.6 million on #travel in the first half of 2023, an approximately 10% increase over the previous 6 months, according to a #CTVNews #analysis of #ExpenseReports.
#Canada's two main #OppositionLeaders had the largest #TravelBills, with #Conservative Leader #PierrePoilievre spending $247,819.15 & #NDP Leader #JagmeetSingh expensing $177,500.18 in the first 6 months of 2023.
I will also point out that I am #disabled #workingPoor who already contributes embarrassingly small donations to #greenPeace, #NDP, #ConservationCouncil, #ExtinctionRebellion, #signalApp, and at least a half-dozen #independantJournalists. Premier Eby mentions the changes of 6 yrs of BCNDP. Lots of accomplishments. Have brought roughly 4,000 previously privatized health workers back into the public sector. ICBC rates are down. Eliminated MSP, which was the largest middle-class tax cut in a generation. Fee birth control in BC started with a resolution at convention - way to go Teale et al!

NDP Deputy Leader, Alex Boulerice, has sponsored a petition that closes on November 23rd calling for a ceasefire, which the NDP will continue to advocate for. So do have a look and please sign:
CBC: “Under the confidence-and-supply agreement between the Liberals and the NDP — which sees New Democrats support the Liberal minority government on confidence votes in exchange for progress on NDP policy priorities — the Liberal government committed to passing pharmacare legislation by the end of 2023. Parliament is only sitting for another four weeks between now and the end of the year.
"I don't think that we are going to get to the point where we need to get on pharmacare next week, so that's going to be an ongoing negotiation. So I'm not worried about next week in terms of pharmacare," Singh said.”

When do you expect the next Canadian General Election to be held?
Apparently, the Prime Minister of Canada & his Liberal Party have introduced legislation to prohibit replacement workers in federally-regulated workplaces during strikes or lockouts as a result of pressure from the New Democratic Party.
The NDP have conditions for their current confidence in the government. These conditions are getting some results. Do you know of any other examples of such results?

Good news. It seems all parties are in favour of NDP MP Laurel Collins' Bill C-332, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (controlling or coercive conduct). It has been referred to committee.
Hopefully the government and the various dental associations get the dental program ironed out soon.
Good news. Mind you, given that most workplace are provincially, and not federally, regulated, it doesn't affect a huge amount of workers. But, every step forward for workers is still a positive.
And don’t @ me that it is risking Poilievre— it is a risk I am willing to take, at least he stabs you in the front. Or, people could actually take advantage of our multi-party system, get over that Singh wears a turban, and vote #NDP.
Revenue neutral carbon taxes won a Nobel prize. Anybody with alternate ideas on fighting climate change: show me your Nobel prize.

Apparently, today, Pierre Poilievre of the Canadian Con party voted with Justin Trudeau of the Liberal party in the Canadian Parliament to preserve the prime minister’s power to prorogue parliament without accountability.

That word doesn’t mean whatever you want it to. It has a specific meaning.
For example: calling Israel an apartheid state, which is exactly what she did, is not antisemitic in any actual or demonstrable way.
Calling her antisemitic for making that statement is, objectively, defamation.
Suing for actual malicious defamation is, objectively, not a SLAPP suit.
🇨🇦 📣 What they did to Member of Provincial Parliament Sarah Jama today, whether you agree with her or not, should horrify everyone. She is forbidden from speaking in the legislature until she retracts her support for Palestinian liberation and and has been kicked out of her what is supposed to be a progressive party. The state of #democracy in #Ontario and #Canada for that matter, is in terrible danger.
FFS, the #NDP are fucking cowards, kicking out Jama because angry fascists were making threats, really????
I must express how disappointed I am in the #NDP right now. Sarah Jama did nothing other than call for peace, correctly label #Israel an #apartheid state, and ask that the annexation of the West Bank (which is a significant contributing factor to the current crisis) be reversed. These are all things that the NDP party should be supporting.
That the party would go so far as to expel her from caucus shows that the NDP is not the party I thought it once was.
It's worth noting that they did not throw Alex Johnstone out for not knowing what Auschwitz was a decade ago.
The politics of broccoli.
Have you ever watched a party convention? How many have voted in elections but never watched any party conventions? The NDP (🇨🇦 Social democratic party) convention was in Hamilton Ontario, and CPAC covered it for you to check out.
And remember, broccoli 🥦 is good for you , so eat your broccoli!
Emergency resolution calls on #NDP to stand firm on pharmacare or risk an election
“The historic nature of Mr. Kinew’s victory must be acknowledged.”
The ballots have been cast. The #votes have been counted. And history has been made in Manitoba as Wab Kinew, the leader of the New Democratic Party, rides an orange wave to become the first First Nation premier of a Canadian province.
The NDP took 33 seats in the general election Oct. 3, propelling the party to a majority government.
The past forty years have seen the rise and rise of a right wing politics that started out extreme (think of #Reagan and #Thatcher's support for #Pinochet's death-squads) and only got worse. Liberals and leftists forged an uneasy alliance, with liberals in the lead (literally, in Canada, where today, #JustinTrudeau's #LiberalParty governs in partnership with the nominally left #NDP).
