Thinking of running a discord based game around 1 pm Pacific Time on some Sundays. I could also try going for 6 pm Pacific time if that works better.

Probably a one shot, mostly as a way to get through the various games and adventures that I have never gotten to play.

@darkade @Tim_Eagon I had an idea to use the Usage die for spellcasting. A first level wizard gets a Ud4. Third level gets a Ud6, etc. Every time you cast a spell you roll usage. When you run out, no more spells that day.

I picked up the Old School Essentials boxed sets, and I’m kind of disappointed in the declared open content. Example, the only thing declared open content in the Advanced Players Guide is a list of secondary skills. Really, they couldn’t open elves or dwarves? They are some secret proprietary race?

It’s a fine enough system, but if I want to publish old school adventures I’ll look elsewhere. Or more likely use the 5e CC and call it good.

A chubby rodent in my yard. This is the third groundhog, three years in a row, I have relocated them (and it's a distance) and another arrives in the spring. We've never had groundhogs on the rocky oceanfront in 40 years.
This one can really sprint for someone with a chubby physique and short legs.
The trouble is, they tunnel and my concrete shed floors collapse. They sure are cute, and I wouldn't kill one, they are too easy to coax into a cage. They behave (mine to) like cats in the yard, laying on my plastic lawn chairs and rolling in the gardens

Mother Goose, #selfie , she never took her eyes off me as I walked just a few feet away from her. She probably knows me, sees me every year, and watched me rototill the garden all day.

I didn't realize she was there until I took a break when the tide went down .

One of my players just requested a Dragon Turtle (cause they have a cool mini they want to use) so I was like, sure, I'll put it in.

It's a bit meta but I think in this case that's actually fine. Mainly because, it builds a bit of anticipation and not everything in the dungeon has to be a surprise or a twist...

Maze Rats, Knave, Into the Odd, Cairn, Mausritter, WWN... Some where in the intersection of all of these is my perfect, Platonic ideal, of a fantasy RPG.

I've runn Dungeon of the Mad Mage since 2018 and thinking about how I'd do it differently if I could start over...

It's a decent dungeon crawl but like most WotC modules, it's super bloated. I wondered if it might be possible to reformat and tweak rules to make it a bit more #OSR

@deinol Also, my feeling is that the default mode of any #OSR game (and presumably #NSR ) is #exploration. And it's not always about just going to new places. It can be about making any new discovery or learning some new fact. I think #gygax hated people reading the Monster Manual because he wanted the players to #explore the monsters and discover new things about them as they played. So you could very easily imagine a campaign where the PCs are called upon to explore the NPC cast.

Guy: Don’t run an exploration game, they are *deeply flawed* because they don’t have recurring NPCs.

While I think it’s important to acknowledge that might be a drawback, I’ve seen plenty of groups who are more interested in solving the next puzzle than having ongoing drama with NPCs. Too often people mistake their personal preferences for universal laws.
