Am 1. Oktober 1890, heute vor 133 Jahren, wurde der Yosemite-Nationalpark gegründet.
Der in der Nähe von San Francisco (Kalifornien) gelegene Park war der dritte Nationalpark der USA und umfasst eine Fläche von 3081 Quadratkilometern. Bereits 1864 war der Park nach kalifornischem Recht gebildet worden und 1890 erfolgte die Gründung des Nationalparks nach Bundesrecht.

Well, our long-planned autumn visit to natural areas and historic sites managed by the @NationalParkService will become an impromptu exploration of other places. Really sad- have waited decades to visit two of them and return to a favorite place where I lived and worked for a third closed #NationalPark site. This will cost #taxpyers millions, and cost gateway communities and concessioners who will never get the money back. Let's hope for better, less divisive days ahead. do better. #electons matter- this is all about the ego of a few members of #congress

For #FungiFriday I thought I’d post this picture of a community of #fungi growing together on a decaying log near the West Mountain Trail in #HotSprings #NationalPark in Hot Springs #Arkansas. The lighter bracket fungi are probably in the genus Trametes. The darker softer fungi are what some locals call “Wood Ear” fungi, although I’m unsure what they actually are.
