This has been the closest I've been to my mourning doves! They have always hung around the powerline near the backyard, but lately, they have been making their presence known thanks to the new bird feeder I've placed in the front yard. I love the iridescent pop of soft pink on the males. Had to make a quick sketch, but will probably make another piece soon.

'Live Oak Acorns and Leaves' is the title of my most recent artwork in soft pastel. We have a very large oak tree in our yard and the model for this work came from that tree. I created this pastel of a hummingbird with coral honeysuckle a few years ago. We have this particular type of native honeysuckle in our garden and it should be blooming in a few weeks. Hopefully we will see some hummingbirds as well.

I’m finally getting back to some art after moving to new house. I’ve been thinking about plants - the fact I have my own yard with plants, a big spruce tree, rose bushes is nice. So I decided to do some drawings. Plus I made it a goal to work in a material I normally don’t use so I went with color pencils. I’ve never liked using them. I don’t really feel like I got a great handle on them but I’m going to use them a lot in the next couple months or so. I had this feeling about oil and chalk pastels and after awhile I got pretty good with them so I’m hoping the same with the color pencils. #art #ColorPencil #drawing #NatureArt #PlantDrawing
