We saw quite a lot of churches built on the top of mounds in villages. Groningen is mostly below sea level and it used to flood a lot so people built villages on mounds and the church would get the pride of place at the highest point.
The theme of today's ride was to visit as many of these mounds as we could, and the organizer explained the history to us. It was very interesting.

This is great way of making people aware that these facilities arent caves below the ground with thousands of yellow barrels with a green glow, but a safe place to visit and educate yourself.
