I just started a #newsletter for forcing myself to read more papers. Please, fellow #academics help me, the more subscribers I have, the more likely it is that I stick to a good #reading habit.
#Newsletter musings: I was going to migrate from #Substack because things were not going well in #Manjaro through the browser. Also, I couldn't find #AltText or #Caption functionality at first.
#Buttondown looks like a sweet alternative, but I got weird behavior with that right from the jump, even with one of the default templates. I don't have the spoons to debug.
All tech issues resolved with Substack, however, and I don't see another compelling reason for the pain of migration.

Am 3.12. gab es in Köln eine Demonstration “Give Peace a Chance! – Menschlichkeit und Frieden statt Terror und Krieg”. In “Sozis im Unruhestand” weise ich auf die dortige Rede von Norbert Walter-Borjans hin. Und “Verteidigen wir unsere Demokratie” ist die Dokumentation der dort gehaltenen Rede von Gerhart R. Baum.
Roland Appel kommentiert weiter die Weltklimakonferenz: “2,9 Grad ! (II)”.
Das gleiche Thema spielt auch hinein in “Reaktoren der Erinnerung – Was heute wichtig ist: Max Czollek / Klima / Afrika”.
Das Wetter und das fehlende Licht im Rheinland funktionieren ebenfalls wie ein Reaktor: für Depressionen. Achten Sie also auf Ihre Mitmenschen. Und sich selbst. Essen und trinken Sie nur Gutes, und am besten nicht alleine. Meiden Sie Medien, von denen Sie schon vorher wissen, dass sie Sie verärgern. Auch, wie ich heute, Fussballspiele “Ihrer” Mannschaft, die ihnen den Tag verhageln könnten. Rheinpegel Bonn 483cm. Die gute Nachricht: die Dürre ist weg (bei uns im Westen).

If a month had four weeks as it would be proper, this would be it. But no, there have to be more weeks.
This week was mostly unremarkable. Winter is here now, so it is dark at 4pm and then there’s the whole snow business.
It was a fun week, (well for my definition of fun) though. I quite like stuff like Spotify Wrapped and it was interesting to see what other people posted. And then there was a new version of Symfony, which enabled me to fix something really annoying with the week notes website which wasn’t possible before.
I pondered going back to Instagram again and asked people if they missed me that’s a good idea.
And then today I sent out a newsletter. I used to do this every week but now that Tinyletter is shutting down, I figured it would be a good moment to start doing it again. (Please don’t sign up on that page. I just haven’t gotten around removing the sign-up form.)
So there you go. A glamorous week. And the sun is setting already.

I listened to Sarah on #GaslitNation for years. In retrospect, I was mostly listening for the background and analysis she provided. When I learned that she left and started a newsletter, I felt a sense of relief that I could set aside that podcast and continue to support her work.
