One of the things with my off Google Workspace migration was looking at different tools to replicate the experience. I've had a very under utilized NextCloud instance, and I discovered it's client now supports streaming files vs just syncing. Perfect.
Well, perfect if you like crashing, a lot. It was not happy with my no where near full list of files. It was doing weird stuff to my windows 11 system tray too.

Feeling overwhelmed. Does anyone know How I should host Nextcloud?
I want it for myself and a few friends to use. I'd like to host it locally on my network using my old PC with a few HDDs for redundancy/large storage.
TrueNas Scale and OpenMediaVault look cool. but looking at TrueNas makes my brain melt atm. Should I just install it with Debian and use a docker image? Currently I have it running on an old Dell Optiplex using the Snap version on Ubuntu. I'd rather not host it on a VPS due to price and I like the idea of having my data locally.

Since yesterday's update from 26.0.1 to 26.0.2 on two independent servers my #Nextcloud Admin Overview displays a red
"Your web server is not yet properly set up to allow file synchronisation, because the WebDAV interface seems to be broken."
And indeed almost all (with very few sporadic exceptions of the Nextcloud client) "PROPFIND /remote.php/..." requests return status code 500 instead of 207 earlier.
What am I missing? Or is that update simply broken?

Easy synchronizable with #Syncthing or #Nextcloud. Generally usable in any editor. In #Android i prefer #Markor. In #LinuxDesktop with #Gnome (Touchdevices) the Shell Extension and with #Sway an keyboardshortcut to open the file directly in #Vim. Its very reliable.

Probował ktoś aktualizować php na #ubuntu 20.04? Dojrzałem dzisiaj, że mam już nie obsługiwaną wersję php, a najnowszy #nextcloud już nie wspiera php 7.4, więc czas zrobić update do php 8.2.
Przeglądałem tutoriale i każą użyć tego repo

Jak to działa? Update jest bezproblemowy? Jak ze stabilnością? Będę to instalował na serwerze, więc chce mieć pewność, że nie sypnie się coś.
Czy trzeba coś zmieniać w apache po aktualizacji? Z tego co zrozumiałem, nowe php będzie widziane w systemie jako php8.2, więc nie wiem, czy apache zajarzy, że ma używać innej wersji php.
PS. Myślałem, że na systemie LTS, aktualizowane będą także paczki, do wersji, która jest wspierana przez twórców, a tu widzę, że lipa. Dziwne troche, jeśli chodzi o kwestie bezpieczeństwa.

Bei @PathConnect habe ich mir jetzt um 1,90 Euro im Monat einen „Collabora Online“ Server geleistet. Den verknüpfte ich mit meiner #Nextcloud und schon kann ich das Nextcloud Office nutzen. Jetzt wird experimentiert.
Nachher: Einführung in die Möglichkeiten der #Nextcloud für Lehramtsstudierende der #UUlm - Die Einführung habe ich diesmal von einem der Nextcloud-AI-Module (Vers. 26) verfassen lassen :-)
@mbootsman Ik draai al jaren een #NextCloud server (als docker in UnRAID), bevalt me prima. Maar ik toot er zelden over. Ik heb nog wel wat bedenkingen hier en daar, maar het werkt best goed.
Random thought, but I wonder how much work would be involved in migrating my #Nextcloud instance from the manually installed archive I've been using for years, to the #docker container. I have never even touched docker. Would Fail2Ban still work? Could I import my existing database or does the docker image have its own hard coded database that might not be able to import mine? Can I manually edit the config.php file to say, add authorized domains, and have those changes saved between updates?
Turns out the reason I haven't gotten notified about the update to #Nextcloud 26 (Hub 4) is because my home server runs #Debian stable, which doesn't have #PHP 8 available, even in backports. I tried manually upgrading my Nextcloud software (I use the archive version) and got the error message telling me PHP 8 was required. I "could" add the Sury PHP repo, but Bookworm is supposed to be released on 10 June, so I'll just wait for that instead of adding a third party repo.

Bei #nextcloud können Notizen angelegt werden, mit #markdown - der Speicherort ist wählbar, etwa ein Ordner, in dem die #obsidian-Dateien liegen. Man könnte also mobil Notizen erstellen, die dann automatisch im #Zettelkasten landen. Hat das schon wer ausprobiert?
Gleichzeitig kann/will aber niemand einen Dienstleister bezahlen, sondern alles soll „in-house“ stattfinden.
Ich kann zwar eine #Nextcloud, ein #Wordpress oder #Moodle per one-click-installer bei unseren Hostern installieren, auch mal nach Anleitung eine #MySQL-Datenbank über myPHP manuell von 5.7 auf 8.0 migrieren oder reparieren und neue #FTP- und #SSH-Zugänge anlegen, aber dann bin ich mit meinem Latein am Ende.

@chris Joplin habe ich schon installiert und habe es zumindest in meinen Überlegungen dabei. Sync über #Nextcloud ist positiv. Schade ist, dass die Dateien nicht direkt als MD-Dateien abgelegt werden. Aber ich schau mal, ob und wie man einen ganzen Haufen an Notizen mitsamt Bildern und Co. exportieren kann. Wenn das gut geht, dann … :-)
@ogmikebln Ich suche etwas das zukunftssicher ist, plattformübergreifend und über #Nextcloud syncbar. #Logseq legt zwar brav alles in MD-Dateien bzw. als Attachments ab. Aber über iOS kann es nicht auf die Nextcloud zugreifen.
Mal schauen, ob mir ein reines Dateisystem auf Nextcloud liegen würde. Kollektive in Nextcloud ist mir auch mal einen Blick wert.
Bei meinem papierener Notizbuch habe ich aus unterschiedlichen Systemen meine eigene Art des Notierens entwickelt.
Mit #Nextcloud habe ich quasi mein eigenes Notizbuch. Jetzt sollte ich nicht von App zu App springen und daran scheitern, dass keine perfekt ist. Ich sollte wohl mir Dinge/Systeme/Strukturen anschauen und daraus meine eigene digitale Notizmethode und Dateiablage entwickeln.

@_DigitalWriter_ @simonroth95 @imaginaryravioli Benutze jetzt auch seit einigen Tagen Hetzners #Nextcloud Angebot. Was u.a. nicht geht ist die Generierung von Thumbnails für Videos. Für manches braucht es dann eigene Server (Nextcloud Office, spezielle Gesichtserkennungs-App - „recognize“ App funktioniert aber, Suche in Dateien,…), die man sich selbst aufsetzen müsste oder bei anderen Anbietern suchen müsste.
So I got this when visiting my #Nextcloud Talk page with #Brave, but it works fine with #Firefox. Brave is up to date according to the Debian repository.
They list a lot of browsers in here but Brave seems like a big one to omit. I wonder what the issue is.

There should be an #OS for #smartphone dedicated to run as a #server, handling updates and reboots well. This way, people could connect their old or broken screen smartphones and all administrative tasks could be managed remotely like with any other server (with #FOSS solutions like #Yunohost, #NextCloud, etc. or #SaaS like Cloudways and others). This would be #ecofriendly and a great incentive to #selfhosting.

Gesichtserkennung in der „Erinnerungen“ (Fotoalbum) App der #Nextcloud aktiviert. Das durchackern etlicher tausend Fotos dauert. Aber bisher ist das Ergebnis sehr gut.

Bon, les gens habitués à #Nextcloud, vous me confirmez qu'on peut pas partager des sous-dossiers correctement (avec le bon chemin et pas à la racine, et les bonnes permissions) hormis l'extension "dossiers de groupe" ?
(le pb état que justement cette extension n'est pas utilisable sur l'instance en question…)

L'admin qui partage à toute une asso en fonction des groupes, et des sous-dossiers pas accessibles aux mêmes groupes.

quién por aquí administra instancias mexicanas de #nextcloud? es que en la mía he notado que la hora del calendario no es la correcta aunque todo está en su última versión posible

Hmmm. Weird #NextCloud bug.
It refuses to create filenames with a ":" in them. Even though the filesystem supports it.

After changing the primary storage backend of my #Nextcloud install to object storage, there were a lot of weird little quirks like missing interface images. The command below seems to have fixed it up (replace http with the user your webserver runs under if different).
sudo -u http php occ maintenance:repair
The #InstantUpload directory on my #Nextcloud server (where photos are synced from my phones over the years) has grown ridiculously huge and is eating nearly all of my space. Somehow, I have to decide what to purge and what to keep but... I really don't feel like digging through thousands of dumb, mostly unimportant, crappy pictures just to find the handful of keepers.

On the desktop, #XMPP clients that support #OMEMO include #Gajim and #Dino. I'm a #GTK user myself so I'm not sure about clients for other toolkits. I've also used the webclient that can be added to #Nextcloud but I don't actually remember if it supports OMEMO.
You'll also need a server. I run #Prosody on one of my #DigitalOcean droplets but Conversations will let you sign up for an account on there's for free as will a few others.
I love #Nextcloud and what it has done for my ability to #deGoogle so much that I feel compelled to send them money... which takes a lot because I am a very financially unrich person. I'm just posting this so y'all can keep me accountable.
