#Nihilism
I am starting to see a black pill analogue worming its way into the collection of services and platforms that use ActivityPub. Around the end of last year, there was a narrative after #ElonMusk bought Twitter about ActivityPub being the next stage of the Internet and Mastodon replacing Twitter. The thing about ActivityPub is that it is highly specialized. Most Mastodon instances differentiate themselves based on niche and political orientation, typically, so you end up with a highly specialized and esoteric collection of individuals. Because of how entropic and dynamical the protocol is, there is a lot of chaos in how these spheres communicate with each other. That acts as a filter, so the personalities that you get are people who are willing to overcome those filters. Most people, especially Americans, are not willing to pass through those filters, so ActivityPub has an issue of retention.
I am noticing a type of resentment and bitterness in many people who use Mastodon. Honestly, I think there is probably some weird Venn diagram between black pills, red pills, and the men on Mastodon with this type of resentment since there is a statistical union between the demographic of men who use Mastodon, #Twitter, and those cultures. Apparently, Mastodon has a very bad reply guy problem, which is sympatric to the resentment that is endemic to manosphere niches.
Considering the ideology is abhorrent, I am not going to explain it in depth. If you know, you know. Black pills are people who have given in to cynicism and a type of nihilism of learned helplessness where they convince themselves that women are shallow and will pass them up because of superficial attractiveness. Instead of addressing the chronic and endemic pervasive negative cultural problems that spread memetically and are reinforced in spaces that use the ActivityPub protocol, I am noticing that many Mastodon users, primarily self-identified nerds, are saying that Mastodon will never be able to compete with places like #Bluesky because people want superficial features and are too dumb or shallow to appreciate Mastodon. When you look at how black pills talk about women and how these men on Mastodon talk about other platforms, you see that the sentiments parallel one another.
There is an inflection point where antisocial personalities give up. Oh, I can be one of the most evil people you have ever met, but I try to deliberately and consciously try to be a better person, albeit I can get real nasty sometimes. I think a lot of the men on Mastodon are reaching that point of #nihilism and cynicism with how they view themselves on #socialmedia.

When I engage my #metacognition, I understand "recognized reality" to be constructed by an internal #dialogue along an #Identity-#Environment axis that synthesizes a (re-)projection around pardox: awareness includes phenomena only unique to itself (awareness does not commute or permute except locally) whilst embedded within a a common substrate (the universe, not necessarily matter) _and_ the collective of which one is part is extensibly indefinite and conformally diffuse (I.e., at/to what extent is one separated from one's predecessors? From one's mother? From one's morning meal, the sweat [sic] on one's breath, or the roles played out in sleep with which one recalls no association?)
I used to #joke that "I am g-d, and you are too!" in a trans-solipsistic way, because I see the embedding of our Beings in a cross- and self-referential reality as the #divinity of what #mundaneity might else lead to hopelessness in #nihilism, though that joke usually left my audiences scratching their heads or scoffing at me in #misunderstanding (for surely I am not a primagenitor of all the squiggliness in life, but some of it for those after me and, by internalized self-projection, "All [Most of]" the squiggliness within my 1st Person PoV).
Dark, dark true story I believe! We were army kids, friggin 18 at enlistment, and we were in Manheim like 20 miles down the road from Frankfurt where Christiana was (supposedly) and, yes, some folks had a Messiah complex and went up there and tried to save cute heroin chicks from the street. I didn't but I felt bad not at least trying but it was 1984-87 and drugs were massively stigmatized AND HIV was arriving and being used to dishonorably discharge people.

You don't know your own stance well enough to understand the criticisms levied against it.

Also, many forms of nihilism are simply correct.
If we go way back in time, it wasn't even called nihilism: The opponent of Realism was called Nominalism, and it was simply correct : It's ludicrous to assign actual existence to human semantic distinctions like Universals. Realism, hence, was false.
That you are uncomfortable with the non-existence of the meaning you have (poorly) weaved around yourself, that's a personal problem more than anything.
Learn to weave in ways that are not circular, or adapt to the cold in other ways.

but it seems so pivotal to so many of the horrors of our times, that his massive popularity is based on content that is well documented to be fairly dubious, if not erroneous, and yet has no significant deterrent to his appeal.

Today In Labor History April 4, 1866: Russian revolutionary, Dmitry Karakozov attempted to assassinate Czar Alexander II. He failed and the government executed him. Some believe that Karakozov chose the year 1866, since that was the year in which a character in Chernyshevsky’s “What Is To Be Done?” planned to launch a revolution. In the book, the protagonist, Vera Pavlovna, escapes a controlling family, and an arranged marriage, to start a socialist cooperative and a truly egalitarian romantic partnership. She starts a seamstress commune, with shared living quarters, profit-sharing and an on-site school to further the women’s education. Chernyshevsky wrote the novel in response to Turgenev’s “Fathers and Sons.” He wrote the book while imprisoned in the Peter and Paul fortress. The book inspired generations of Russian radicals, including the nihilists, anarchists and even many Marxists.

It’s that kind of intervention (viewed millions of times) that corrodes #democracy and engenders #nihilism and whets appetite for #authoritarianism.
