Literally the *only* German-style kebab shop opened *in my neighborhood* (the Tenderloin). I am going to check it out. We have a dearth of good kebab spots, mainly because it’s hard (or not permitted) for restaurants to keep a spit going here. And this place has really good reviews. It’s called Ararat, it’s on O’Farrell. They also have non-German styles (German-style kebab is legitimately a separate Turkish thing).

Well this sucks. The wildfire smoke from the northernmost part of California and from Oregon is hitting my area real hard totally out of the blue. I was sitting around and all of a sudden my eyes burned and throat was uncomfortable.

Then I checked #PurpleAir and realized why. This is supposed to continue for a few days. I hope that ends up being wrong. I’ve got an outdoor event coming up this week.

After #hiking out past a little fire, it was a bit baffling why I was barreling toward this pyrocumulonimbus and smoke mess. A lot of smoke, but no roads closed so I made it home.

Trail work with the Bigfoot Trail Alliance was cut short after the 2AM lightning storm that has apparently lit off 19 fires in the #MarbleMountainWilderness including this one among the Sky High Lakes. The air was actually clearer in the basin even though it had it's own smoke source.

Last wednesday I posted my favorite version of my multiple sessions from this location, and today here's my second favorite.

From my last post about this spot:
I've visited a lot of waterfalls in my time as a photographer, and while my technique has evolved with experience and time, this image from 2007 has remained one of my favorites. I've gone back to this location multiple times to photograph this exact image, but this one always wins out.

Getting to this position in the creek is not for the faint of heart-- I usually put my camera strap in my teeth to hold it above the water as my feet slip over mossy, slick rocks until I get to a boulder further downstream. When I'm done taking exposures I am typically soaked head to toe.
Worth it. Every single time.

I've seen many pyrocumulus clouds, but I've never seen a lone cloud above a small fire like this, which I saw today. It made for a great photo, too. It looks like it should be in a Wes Anderson film.
