I painted this painting today and made multiple changes that I didn't feel were really that good. So I decided to turn the painting vertically because it was painted horizontally. I wanted to see it in a new way to give me any ideas of areas that needed to be worked. When I did that I said "Oh my God, that's the abstraction... it's finished."

For all the folk beliefs in “haunted” forests, I feel the only thing that can make a forest feel truly haunted is human-caused destruction.

Inspired by the “Ghost Bear Family” BBC documentary and by the aesthetic of Japanese woodblock prints. This is the first large painting I managed in a long time as I'm aiming to resume gallery shows as soon as possible.

This is an art nouveau inspired mermaid. The pose is based on Lamia II by John William Waterhouse.
