Today's run was a 45 min base + extra to hit 4 mi. Avg pace of 11:51 which is a good sign for the half. It was my first run using my new chest HRM too. My initial review is that these things look a lot better on skinny guys. But I was surprised at the additional data. Respiration rate! Ground contact time *balance*! (I favor my left foot slightly, apparently.) Neat stuff!

Periods of clouds and sun today, breezy with showers and t-storms. High near 17°C. Another system tomorrow though this one will be weaker. Showers taper off Friday and we’re looking at a sunny albeit cool weekend.
Next chance of rain comes Monday. Highs remaining around 16°-18°C for the forecast period with lows 8°-11°C.

Random musings... One of these days I'm going to assemble the data to verify it, but I have this hypothesis about rain in the #pdx area: if it's been raining, it will likely pause (or at least let up a bit) right around dawn or dusk. The forecasting models never seem to predict it, but I've noticed it often enough to form the hypothesis. Knowing little about weather science, my best guess is that it has something to do with a shift in wind/temp due to the arrival/departure of sunlight. #orwx

At the end of the workout I kept going until I hit 10k, for a Strava badge, but also ended up getting a 10k PR. Which may have been due to GPS issues. I guess we'll never know...

Rain showers and t-storms, especially after 15:00. A strong but small low will likely make landfall tonight but uncertainty remains on where.
If it tracks close to Portland, wind gusts up to 70 km/h are possible early tomorrow but with large geographic variability. Most models place the center in Washington which would produce gusts to 50 km/h here. In either case, heavy rain is likely.
Remaining showery through Friday.

So, when I was at Mt St Helens this past week with my family, we thought we saw a Peregrine falcon (along with spooking a few Ptarmigan.) The problem is, it doesn't seem like Peregrine would be up there on the edge of the mountain at around 4,500ft. We were near lakes, but a few miles away from any one in particular.
Any ideas on hawks that look similar in that area? Just curious.
Here's a nice tip for downtown #Portland lunch in the rainy season for coffee drinkers. The rebuilt carts at 5th and Stark/Harvey Milk are very nice, but they don't have a true covered area. Take your food up to Forte at 6th and Washington and buy a coffee! They're pretty good, and they welcome outside food. It's comfy, they have free water and even a pool table! It's a great hookup and I never see anyone else doing it. #pdx

Heavy rain this morning becoming strong showers and isolated thunder after the cold front passes through. Breezy. High around 16°C. Another low tomorrow keeps rain in place. About a 15% chance of minor to moderately damaging wind Tuesday night depending on the position of a localized low.
Rain continues off and on through Friday before possibly drying out for the weekend. Highs remaining below 20°C.
In the past two weeks alone in #pdx, a Black-owned game shop, a Black-owned bookstore, and a Black-owned food cart have been vandalized. In the case of the food cart, they've been targeted twice, and the vandals gained no material value from the act.
These are clearly racistly motivated acts, and they must be stopped.

Light rain showers, mainly after 15:00. High around 20°C. Showers taper off tonight with patchy fog in the morning. The main rain event resumes midday Sunday with the approach of a strong atmospheric river.
From there, off and on rain (heavy at times) is likely through Thursday and remains possible beyond that. Breezy through at least Wednesday. Highs 15-18°C for the rest of the forecast period, lows 11-14°C.
Odds from the 12z GFS ennseble for Tillamook for the incoming atmospheric river (Sun-Tue):
AR 1 (weak): 100%
AR 2 (moderate): 100%
AR 3 (strong): 90%
AR 4 (extreme): 55%
AR 5 (exceptional): 0%
Heavy rain is likely in the Coast Range and west slopes of the Cascades. Periods of heavy with frequent moderate rain are likely in the Willamette Valley but it looks more showery.
Minor flooding of Coast Range streams and debris flows near recent burn scars are possible.

The math on the typical mortgage is pretty crazy right now.
The median home sale price in Portland was $517k in August, according to Zillow.
Assuming 5% down and a property tax rate of 1.04%, you’re looking at about $3,700 per month with a fixed-rate 30-year @ 7%.
The monthly payment on the same home in 2021 @ 2.75% would’ve been about $2400. That’s $15,600 more per year, or $468k more over the life of the loan if you were to never refi.
