For #RoseWednesday, the story and a picture taken today of #Peace hybrid tea #Rose. This rose was bred by Francis Meilland in France between 1935 and 1939. Seeing that France was soon to be occupied and engulfed in WWII, he sent cuttings from this rose to growers in the US, Italy, Germany, and Turkey. His cutting sent to Conard Pyle in the US went out on the last plane available. On April 29, 1945 the rose was introduced by Pyle as "Peace". 🩷

Suddenly everybody understood that a nuclear war by error was possible. The #AI in the movie was just a metaphor for a non-transparent and potentially buggy software, which could lead to such a catastrophe. In Germany, these dangers put millions to the streets demonstrating for #peace.

This is my Sony Viao MMX laptop from 1997, still going strong. I upgraded its RAM to a whopping 320 megabytes a couple of years ago. The CPU screams along at a humongous 133 MHz.
The OS is SuSE 8.0 and the pictures show it running #Emacs 21.1.1 (which it boots into) 😄
None of that modern GUI nonsense, this thing is TTY exclusive. Though I have had it running KDE and Gnome 🤖

I'm getting a late start this morning. It took me a while to find a photo for this morning and Iaid back in my recliner for an hour after dealing with the dogs' morning regime. I'm about finished with my first cup of coffee but my mind still a bit immersed in morning fog.
One of my favorite authors is Dean Koontz, he wrote a series about a fictional FBI agent Jane Hawk, in the series there is a line that goes "be at peace." It's a good series, one of those that leaves you hanging at the end of each book. Anyway, "be at peace" does and doesn't mean what you think it means ... but you'd need to read the books to find out what. At work, when I worked, I would sometimes use the line when somebody was agitated ... but of course I kind of got blank looks.

It was strange as a lifelong #atheist to find myself willingly going to a religious service on this #Easter Sunday. But I attend an unprogrammed #Quaker meeting (#SanFrancisco Friends) so there was no sermon, only individuals giving ministry as they felt led. I'm glad I went as the meeting house is a place where I feel safe and welcomed, a sanctuary in a world I see as hostile and overwhelming.
