#PeerTube would be a great platform for hosting audio for #AudioMo https://mstdn.social/@feditips/110509700853853659

PeerTube, the Fediverse's alternative to YouTube, is normally associated with video. However, you can also upload audio files directly to PeerTube. It will accept lots of audio formats including .mp3, .ogg, .aac, .flac, .wma etc.

You can optionally upload an image file as a thumbnail. If not, audio files will show a black screen by default.

アカウントではなく、アクティビティで計測すると、マストドンは1位ではないのです。Misskeyが1位です。

マストドンは2位です。

そして、Pixelfedのような他のサーバータイプも、それほどひどい結果にはなっていません。

しかし、アカウントの登録状況も考慮した場合、このような結果はもっと興味深いです。

確かに総アカウント数によると、mastodon.socialは1,159,110人のユーザーを抱え、Fediverseで最も大きなサーバーであることは事実です。それに対して、misskey.ioは183,549アカウントしかありません。

しかし、misskey.ioはmastodon.socialの2倍以上のコンテンツを生み出している。

これはスパムのせいではないか、と考える人もいます。

misskey.ioとmastodon.socialの両方を積極的に監視している者として、実際にはmastodon.socialの方がより多くのスパムを生み出しているように見えます。misskey.ioではまだスパムに遭遇したことがありませんし、スパムを受け取ったこともありません。mastodon.socialについては、先月2回、クリプトスパムを受信していることから、同じことは言えません。

何が起こっているのか？

まず、事実を認めなければなりません。Fediverseは、単純に日本で人気があるのです。Fediverseで最もアクティブな10台のサーバーを見ると、そのうちの6台が日本です。そう、マストドンのサーバーも。

そして日本では、Misskeyがマストドンを追い抜いているように見えます。これはアカウント数の多さという点ではまだまだですが、急成長しているサーバーは明らかにMisskeyです。生の投稿の量という点では、すでにMisskeyがマストドンを追い抜いています。

@the_white_wolf aktuell "noch" nicht. Langfristig kann ich mir aber vorstellen das Setup zu erweitern und ein #restream (doppelten Stream) auf eine #Peertube #Instanz zu machen die den Stream automatisch zum VoD verarbeitet. Aktuell gibt mein Setup das simultane aufnehmen einfach nicht her.
Wenn ich aber irgendwann mal vielleicht Hardware geupgradet hab vielleicht dann. Oder aber ich Formate aufteile die ich aufnehme und welche die ich streame.

Da möchte ich mich erstmal noch nicht festlegen.

Making #PeerTube V4V progress. On the Ops side, spent the last couple days building out a more extensive test network so I can more reliably find showstoppers before they impact beta test sysops. Looking into the ability to publish beta versions that don't show up in the public list to better test the install process itself

On the Dev side working on RSS feed compatibility with different apps, Enabling webtorrent solves a lot of issues out of the box, but the storage overhead is excessive.

Hatte mir die letzten Tage eine VM mit ein bisschen Leistung (3 Kerne, 6 GB RAM und 500 GB Speicherplatz) für knapp einen Fünfer besorgt um mich an ein paar Dienste im #fediverse zu versuchen und so möglichst #Peertube #pixelfed und #matrix auf einer VM laufen zu lassen.

Hey @Vivaldi, how impossible would it be to have a "full screen video" option where the side panel stays visible? Various video platforms like #PeerTube and #YouTube have "Theater Modes", which expands how large the video is, but there's still "stuff" around the edges. When I'm watching something like Google I/O or WWDC, or really any live video, I like to keep a panel visible to watch tagged posts on social media (Mastodon for me, but any panel is good). Nothing seems to do this.

I would dump youtube if there were a good fediverse alternative. I hate the advertising crap infecting the videos. And yes, there is #PeerTube, but it is quite limited. What's worse, it's achingly worthy and more than a bit up itself.

I'm looking for irreverence and surprise, something that takes you down a rabbit hole and may not always be good for you.

I suspect these qualities are incompatible with the fediverse.

Sadly, even people on the fedi seem insistent on trying to appease Google's panoptical algorithm, by only posting to #YouTube. 🤮 (looking at you, among others @nextcloud )

I understand promoting the #fediverse but let’s pump the breaks on the #peertube #YouTube comparisons. It sets people up for failure. I appreciate the work done for PeerTube but it’s not even close. suppose you take #cardboard #trash and cut it and glue it into a cube. then you put some soil in the cube and do some kind of experiment. You could grow #worms, do a compost, grow #mushrooms build a battery from trash, grow the beginning of a tree, and possibly stack the cube with other cubes in a whole system of cubes. then you take videos of your results and put them all on a #peertube instance you host on laptops from the trash. You replicate this to millions of people, all hosting peer tube instances and uploading video results of their soil in trash cube experiments. that's a lot of data on what we can do with soil in cubes. we have goals we want from this, vegetables and mushrooms to grow, systems to get working. We can create algorithms which read in the video data and crunch on it to create summaries which people can use as a feedback loop to get the cubes working like they want. initially, this "#algorithm" is just #gardening enthusiasts watching and making their own videos. But as we scale we can add more trash servers which host software that automates more and more of the tasks.

So as I understand it, on #Lemmy /#Kbin every instance has its own set of "subreddits" and they can overlap. It's up to the instance admin to create these, and assign mods.

You can--of course--subscribe and post to "communities" or "magazines" on other instances; similar to "channels" in #Peertube.

I think this is confusing, but important for new users to understand as they migrate from #reddit.

The instance you're on doesn't have to have *all* the subreddits.

Oh, I love #PeerTube, but that's not what I was thinking of. Something more like Vine.
If you're not familiar with it, Beme was a video social network started by Casey Neistat around 2015. The premise is that it recorded 6 (iirc) second videos when you covered the phone's proximity sensor (later, also when you held down a button) -- with absolutely no preview or feedback.

I don't think that #Peertube or #pixelfed need to exist.

We don't need another #ActivityPub profile for every type of content we produce.

It's like creating one email address for sending people videos and another for sending them photos. Just have one email address and use it for both of those things.

I think Pixelfed and Peertube should just let you authenticate with whatever #Fediverse address you already have, and then use their API to publish or view your feed in whatever special way they want to.

Hey, #PeerTube users. Can anyone point me to some kind of guide on how to successfully use the “Permanent/recurring live” function? Every time I’ve tried to use it, I’ve failed. I’ve given up, and now I just use the “Normal live” function, which is annoying, because I have to update the live stream key in OBS every time, and I can’t send students a URL that doesn’t change every week. (I just send the link to my channel, but going from there to the actual stream is not terribly intuitive.)
