#Pesach
I love this recipe both for #Shavuot and #Pesach, it’s flourless and creamy and as long as you have either a large blender or a food processor, and an oven that can reach 500°F/260°C, it’s very easy. #Mazeldon https://www.kingarthurbaking.com/recipes/basque-style-cheesecake-tarta-de-queso-recipe
Matzah with peanut butter is a special treat for my father and me after Pesach is over, since we don’t do kitniyot. One time, my father dropped a piece face down on the floor so we put it out for the critters. A lucky squirrel came across it, licked all the peanut butter off, and left the matzah! To this day I haven’t gotten over it. #Mazeldon #Pesach #Passover #Food #Matzah
Red fruit slices are the most popular. My favorite are yellow, but my (admittedly small) family all like red best, confirming the accuracy of my poll. In any case, all fruit slices are delicious especially when made with real fruit juice. #Pesach #Passover #FruitSlices
Well #Pesach is definitely over!
I feel like there should be something to say at the end. “Next year in Jerusalem”?

Best wishes at #passover #pesach to all my Jewish friends! https://dry-valleys.tumblr.com/post/159706094319/samuel-colman-the-delivery-of-israel-one-of-many
Today is 7 days—one week—of the Omer (Malkhut within Chesed)
It’s also, for Reform Jews and Jews in Israel, the end of #Pesach. I am noting the occasion with a #donut.
As far as I understand it Pesach for Reconstructionist, & Humanist(?), Jews also lasts 7 days. Orthodox and Conservative Judaism lasts 8 days, so one more day of matzah (though I think it can be a bit wet on the last day?).
Last night of #Pesach was a delightful non-traditional #seder of sorts for our family, in which we recounted some of what we learned and discussed where our thoughts went this season for each of the elements of the seder.
I think it might end up being a new tradition for us. I really liked having the recap/debrief session.

First time making toffee/choc/almond matzah - not bad, could be improved. Choc not hard. Oh well, still yummy!

Pesach listening - some classics from Pharaoh's Daughter and Jamie Saft on Tzadik's Radical Jewish Culture series.

Yesterday I made gefilte fish and chrayne for the first time.
Today I wrote about it at great length:

@johannesbeers @WH @Eetschrijver @Martranslations @Marielvd overigens ging Christus #Pesach vieren in Jeruzalem. #Pasen is dus eerder op Pesach gebaseerd dan op iets Germaans vermoed ik.

I am (finally) making gefilte fish for the first time. This is terrifying. But also exciting.
There may be some Interesting Gefilte Fish Facts to follow.
The first Interesting Gefilte Fish Fact is probably more interesting to me than to you, but apparently I should have used white pepper not black pepper.
I don't have any white pepper. Next time.
💫🥚 Did you know (thx @aidancurran!)..
In #Irish, #Passover & #Easter share a word : Cáisc. So cool!
I like this extra bc I always chuckle at the #French for Passover : #Pâques Juive (lit. #Jewish #Easter) 😜
1) Storyline/order of #history that's off 🤔
2) The word Pâques comes from #Pesach! 🙌🏽
So, Beannachtaí na Cásca! Blessings for Pesach/Easter (*& the root of it ALL*, #Spring, #Ostara, #Oestre)! 💐

The intermediate days of Pesach - Passover (April 8 – Tuesday, April 11) are considered “semi-festive.” Although they are the “weekday” of the holiday, not all work, activities and crafts are permitted.

After asking in the House of Commons on 5 April 1944 that Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden confirm the arrest of #Polish #Jewish soldiers who had sought transfer to the British Army, MP Tom Driberg pursued the matter on the 6th, shortly before #Passover & #Easter.
He bemoaned the inability of the Polish military to stamp out #antisemitism and defended the soldiers against charges of cowardice.
Press coverage would now follow.

A wonderful Seder tonight celebrating both my Jewish and Indian heritage. This is the way #Pesach
That MP Tom Driberg & many other advocates for the arrested #Polish #Jewish soldiers, were on the left only confirmed the instinctive Polish & British right-wing charge (which one still encounters) that the "desertions" were an anti-Polish Bolshevik plot. 1) Driberg was not yet a Soviet agent. 2) He first tried to resolve matters behind the scenes, & 3) after going public, was careful not to criticize the Pl govt.

Is anyone else joining me in the #CountingOfTheOmer this year?
Grab a workbook, or suggest some websites for people, or just journal every day.
#Passover gonna be lit tonight, fam. 🍷😎

Because #antisemitism in the #Polish Army in the #UK is the topic of the book I am writing, I was of course pleased to see that Kyle Orton (still only on birdsite AFAIK) recently posted a piece on Tom Driberg, who was the leading advocate for the #Jewish soldiers.
A (onetime) #communist--later, Soviet agent---openly #gay High Anglican who became a Baron, Driberg is a fascinating & complex figure

More to come
Watched it! (I started last night but felt it was more of a daytime movie so finished it today when I got home).
Fab songs. Absolutely incredible animation. This was released in 1998?! Wow.
Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden's response to Tom Driberg on the problem of #antisemitism in the #Polish forces and transfers to the British was characteristically anodyne and evasive.
Driberg pressed him.
Eden pushed back.
But the question would not go away. For the next month and beyond, it made headlines.
Stay tuned . . .
5 April 1944:
"Mr. Driberg...asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he is aware that despite the efforts of the #Polish Government there are persistent and widespread manifestations of #antisemitism in the Polish Forces in this country and that a number of Jewish soldiers & sailors are now undergoing or awaiting court martial for absenting themselves from the Polish Forces in the hope of securing their transfer to the British Force'
And this brings us up to today('s date in 1944).
Left independent MP Tom Driberg had all along been working, along with the National Council for Civil Liberties (NCCL: forerunner of UK Liberty; equivalent to US ACLU) to assist the #Jewish soldiers in the #Polish Army protesting antisemitism.
The arrest of the soldiers forced him to bring the fight into the open and prepare to raise the matter in the House of Commons.
In late March, 1944 despite the warning from the #Polish authorities, some 30 additional #Jewish soldiers--finding that #antisemitism had increased rather than decreased--traveled from Scotland to London seeking transfers to the British Army.
This time, the hammer came down: On 30 March, London police & Polish MPs raided the Yiddish theater where the soldiers were staying, placed them under arrest, & sent them back to Scotland for a court martial.
The authorities approved the transfer of 134 #Polish #Jewish soldiers to the British Army in February 1944 but then drew a line:
In mid-March 1944, #Polish Defence Minister Kukiel issued 2 Orders of the Day: 1 announcing that absence without leave would be treated as desertion in wartime—in the case of “conspiracy,” potentially carrying the death penalty (& threatening the offenders'' families)—& another condemning both "desertion" & antisemitism
The efforts of the London #Polish government & military to assure the #Jewish soldiers that they were welcome proved unavailing.
In January 1944, 68 soldiers left their posts in Scotland & traveled to London demanding to join the British Army.
Anxious about bad publicity, UK & Polish authorities silently approved the transfers. The Poles established a commission of inquiry on #antisemitism, but its biased nature prompted another 134 soldiers to leave.
Searched “seder” on YouTube and filtered to anything livestreaming right now. Every result, and there were only a few, was Christians appropriating, messianics cosplaying or Hebrew Israelites doing whatever they do. I know most community or congregational seders are tomorrow night, but this feels like a void that should’ve been anticipated and that the worst actors have been able to fill in the absence of a legit Jewish presence tonight. #Pesach #Mazeldon

Chag #Pesach sameach to EVERYONE!
And #HappyHolidays to those who don't observe.
Of course it can be for any chag. Why would you assume it's just for #Passover? Frogs aren't a religious thing, just a universal symbol of spring.
Chag Pesach sameach, friends!

After the #pesach #seder, when you realize you have way more than four questions, how about bringing them to our Judaism community?
We're small now. Will you help us build our community of learners? Drop into our study hall, ask questions, help others with answers to their questions, share a d'var torah if you're so inclined, and join us in building a community together. Not an ask-the-rabbi service, just people at all levels learning together.
Chag sameach!
The #Christian #holiday of Yom #Easter is approaching.
Since it always falls on Firstday and often falls during #Pesach Break, as it does this year, you may not be aware that our Christian students are celebrating this Christian holiday. Christians commemorate the execution of the Christian prophet, Yeshu, on Yom “Friday” Ha’Tov (Sixthday this week).

I hope your #Pesach preparations are proceeding apace! As we all prepare for Pesach, some of our #Christian students and staff may be preparing for their own week of holidays, which, however, does not coincide with Pesach.
The week commemorates the last week before the Christian prophet Yeshu's execution.

I’ve had an email from my synagogue and we have a class on Thursday about Pesach as part of the Introduction to Judaism course (I join online).
I need to have a Seder plate prepared (I’m searching online now for appropriate vegetarian Seder plates) as we’re going to sort of go through a Seder.
But it’s also suggested we have Matso… and that’s something I can’t get in Japan in time. Is there something I could use as an alternative for this class?
Thanks!!
The grocery store near me has an end cap with Manischewitz packaged food, grape juice, boxed matzos, and a box of Shabbat candles. I'm shocked!
(My kid said, "I think they put this out just for us!")
