Early morning walk on the towpath. Experimenting with a phone camera, something I'm not used to, and had no success with!
Borrowed one a different one from one of my sons and am pretty impressed with it's night mode. #LeedsLiverpoolCanal #Blackburn #OppoFindx3Pro #PhonePhotography

A mainly dark early morning picture with the canal and towpath leading into the darkness of an industrial estate. a tree silhouette frames the left of the photo. The bright lights of the buildings light up the industrial units and a plume of smoke or steam is reflected on the surface of the water.

I managed to photo Jupiter last night, and I got detail! Look at those cloud bands!!😭😭

I nearly cried and did a happy dance.🥹

Buying my scope was SUCH a good decision! She's showing me such amazing things!
Photo taken on my phone so it isn't the best, but it's mine.🥹💜

#SkyWatch #Astrophotography #PhonePhotography I wasn't feeling well enough last night to set up my equipment so I used my phone on a tripod to capture this image of the Orion constellation. It's easy to find if you look for Orion's Belt, the 3 stars in a tight row in the middle of the image. Then find his sword, his shield at the top, his feet in down to the right, his shoulders up to the left and his head above his shoulders. I am amazed at the capabilities of this phone camera.

Walked out of the house about 8:30 today to go on a bagel run. Noticed our neighbor's tree had turned, seemingly overnight. Some fleeting nice light lit it for a moment. Had to take a snap.

#Photography & #Video people, this is your chance to talk about Tripods!

I need a tripod that can hold a phone, sit on a tabletop, & shoot straight down without getting its legs in the shot so I can record myself working & animate my paintings. Right now my "tripod" is a stack of #Discworld books. It's wobbly & gets my #books closer to water than I like

Please, give me your recommendations!

Further foibles in my quest to escape Samsung -

Pixel 8 - meh. 🤷🏻‍♀️

#Pixel8Pro - well geez, that looks fun. 🤔

Was thinking #OnePlus originally, the 12 should drop around February

I tend to think the Pixel 8 will probably outperform the OnePlus on pixel-peeping. But that lack of manual camera control is almost a deal breaker for me.
I know the camera app is due an update, but by how much? 🤔

My cell phone is 7 years old and the screen is cracked from top to bottom and side to side. When the camera started started to fail, I decided to get a new phone since there have been big improvements in phone cameras. These pictures were taken at 0.5x magnification, 1x mag and 5x mag with the newest iPhone. Apart from cropping, these pictures are not improved. I think this camera will be fun to use. #photography #phonephotography #sky #flowers #berries

This Window Friday goes for all of you who are at a hospital.
I have a jillion pics like this one, taken during a long time when I was hospitalized. It helped me to try and find some beauty around me. I was lucky to have that window, and the fact that the sun set precisely behind the tallest building brought me some unexpected joy.

Good luck, stay strong and, if you can, fight for public universal healthcare.

Photo taken from my hospital bed, some tubes hanging from the dropper, the room is dimly lit by the light entering two horizontal windows. Through them I can see the horizon, the sun sets just behind the tallest building on the horizon, creating a nice play of light and shadow.
I tried to capture some beauty and peace there, but given the circumstances and the lighting, the photo is also quite moody.

Succulent and lichen growing in a cracked roof

#PhonePhotography #UrbanNature #lichensubscribe #Lichen #Succulent #plants

Photo, exterior roof, daylight.between the gaps of an out of focus wire fence, there's a plant (a succulent, I think) sprouting through a crack in orange bricks partially painted red. The plant is pink with dark spots. Fleshy, serrated leaves.
Yellow and green lichen grows around it, on the bricks. All of this is in the shade but well lit
Past the roof, greenery and buildings appear entirely out of focus and brightly lit.
Same photo, different crop in order to show the subjects closer and bring out their details.

Photo of a small cloud, centered and floating in front of the sun, so its edges are white hot while the core still manages to cast some internal shadows. The surrounding sky is a bit underexposed blue, showing some subtle sun rays radiating from the center of the cloud. Dark rooftops and a TV antenna frame the pic on all sides but the top, as the photo was taken looking up from a lower rooftop. A wire crosses the picture from the top right corner, where the antenna is, to the bottom left one, passing through the cloud.
Mostly the same composition and effect, but a different cloud this time, a bit larger and, let's say pill-shaped.

We often thank people for writing image descriptions here. And we should; they're awesome! So please consider this post as only applying to those awesome folks who describe their images, and those who only do not because of their own disabilities, especially if they use imagecaptionspls@a.gup.pe or the Alt4You hashtag instead:
Thank you, too, to those of you who properly tag your posts. If you use any of the below hashtags (and I hope you can forgive me for pinging them this once), thanks! Or, of course, any other image-related hashtags that I just haven't encountered yet!
They give your post more reach, of course, and that's very useful to artists. But they also make your post easily filterable. This means that sometimes, when there is a little too much of everything, I can temporarily lessen the amount of images on my timeline.
Please do not take this as proof that image descriptions are useless. They're not! I for one still very much enjoy them. There's a reason why #Caturday, #CatsOfMastodon, #DogsOfMastodon, etc. are not in the below list, though tagging those is still great! It's because I cannot imagine a day when I'd feel overwhelmed by cute animal pic descriptions.
But ... while I often want to be a part of your world, there are days when I don't feel like it. When I'd rather enjoy the text that is common to all of us, the reason I came here. Or perhaps all the cool audio stuff my friends are posting (which should also be described and hashtagged for deaf and hard of hearing folks!) Filtering allows me to do that on a platform that doesn't support blocking media, while still recieving some images that I *am* interested in, and not having to mute any of you wonderful people.
I know "thank you for letting me filter and ignore your stuff" is not the kindest statement, but ... yeah, still.
