#SilentSunday it is!
I hope you've had a great weekend!

This is a small church in Krakow, Poland that I'm trying to #photograph for my project... not there yet, but the #photo itself turned out nice, so I thought I'd share it with you!

I'm out of my rut and back to (mediocre) shooting again.

I now have a summer project in mind to get some better composed contrast shots of the arcades with shadows taken at the right time of day.

#cardiff #photo #photography #StreetPhoto #StreetPhotography #Street #Photograph #summer

A colour street photograph of a man exiting Cardiff's High Street Arcade, stepping out of shadow into sunlight. My perspective is slightly off, and the shadow positioning isn't quite right, with shadows slightly obscuring the entrance sign. The composition isn't perfect either, with a half-visible second subject sitting in obscurity, and a passerby crowding the shot behind the main subject.

Anomalous pebble in layered #sedimentary #rock

An angular pebble is conformably surrounded by argillaceous and sandy layers in this #photograph of the #Neoproterozoic #Squantum Member of the #Roxbury Conglomerate. The wide range of clast sizes led to an interpretation as a #glacial #tillite thru the 1970s, but the Squantum Member is now mostly interpreted as a #debrisFlow (#debrite or #turbidite). My #photo.

From 'American Childhood' by
Todd Brewster:

'The picture on this page is a historical trove. It shows Fannie Virginia Casseopia Lawrence, the name that was provided to a young girl who became perhaps the most photographed of the many mixed-race children who were used for antislavery propaganda during the Civil War. Lawrence was born “Fannie” Fletcher. Her mother was a slave who, it is suggested, was the product of white rape. She had been discovered by a Union army nurse, Catherine S. Lawrence, in Fairfax, Virginia, and adopted by her, hence her last name. (Virginia was assumed to denote where she had come from and Casseopia remains a mystery.) In 1863, the girl was brought to the Brooklyn church of the celebrated pastor Henry Ward Beecher, whose baptizing of the child was an event witnessed by many and amply recorded in the press. Since she appeared to be white but had been the victim of slavery, her very presence formed a powerful statement to white audiences: slavery also threatens children who look like your own. At a time when the mission of the war was shifting from one of protecting the union to one of ending slavery (Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863), Lawrence was one of many children who appeared on stiff cardboard cartes de visite, photographic keepsakes intended to promote antislavery feelings in the North.

'Still, while the campaign, organized by the American Missionary Association and the National Freedman’s Relief Association, may have been intended to serve the moral cause of abolition, it conveyed an uncomfortable message at best. It suggested that white northerners might be inspired to passion on the subject of slavery only if they felt it threatened “white-looking” children. “Look upon this child,” said Beecher to his congregation. “Tell me if you ever saw a fairer, sweeter face? This is a sample of the slavery which clutches for itself everything fair and attractive. The loveliness of this face, the beauty of this figure, would only make her so much more valuable for lust.” Then, too, there was the strange way that the children, idealized in portraiture, were being “sold.” After Fannie’s baptism, a collection was taken up in Beecher’s church, ostensibly for the child’s care and education, though none of the money ever reached her. Lawrence would visit churches, present Fannie’s story, and then provide a carte de visite like the one on page 77 in return for a donation. “This little exposition of slavery is doing much to settle our consciences in regard to that matter,” read a report in the local Middletown, Connecticut, paper when Fannie was presented at several churches there. “Childhood is irresistible, truth is potent, and the sight of young fair innocence blighted forever by an institution of man’s brutishness, brings to our hearts a feeling of shame.” Thus, in the picture of this one child, we have a representation of slavery, war, rape, racism, and exploitation.'

COLOR ME FUN - The Harbor Ferry at Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. One of the fleet of ferries known as "Happy Boats" and "Pickle Boats" sends colorful ripples and shadows across the Inner Harbor waters. Artists photo enhanced with apps. #BuyIntoArt #AYearForArt #HomeDecor #Canada #boats #ferry #reflections #WallArt #beautiful #abstractions #AbstractRealism #photograph #AppArtist

A small, enclosed, passenger ferry boat glides across an inner harbor from right to left at sunset. The colors are exaggerated to create a brilliant picture of intense yellow sun reflection and water roles of blues and violets. The water ripples twist and contort the boat's reflections adding to the interesting effects.

'#Wrecked and #Abandoned #Boat'

I have posted this #photograph as it is the first file I have post-processed from RAW using #darktable.

I sat down this afternoon for an hour or two and got to grips with the application! I'm getting there, slowly, and I reckon I'll stick with this software for now and see how I do.

Any feedback, on both the photograph and the processing of it, would be helpful, thanks.

The “#Giant Walking #Iris” is another member of the #Trimezia genus. These are #flowers from the #Neomaric Caerula is native to Brazil and has MUCH larger flowers and leaves than the yellow walking iris.
It still grows in the same manner, though: Flowers #bloom, the a new plant grows where the flower was, and the flower stem slowly falls to the ground, allowing the iris to #walk.
