I also spent some time this weekend developing* a challenge mode for the Game Boy Color version of the #PokemonTCG, where you are given a random deck from the Deck Machines and have to beat everyone. I've playtested it a few times and it feels super fun. So that's probably what I'm playing next on stream.
*Coming up with the rules and a spreadsheet to track data on stream. I don't know how to create code.
While not in the best of condition, this is how I received my (what I suspect to be) my very first holographic Pokémon card: Nidoqueen from the Jungle set! It was given to me by a friend over twenty years ago, and remains a special card in my collection.
I don't have many Japanese cards, but here's the first ones I ever owned: A few Gym Heroes, Neo Genesis and Neo Discovery. My friend Mason gave them to me about 20 years ago.
I believe they are real, but if anyone can confirm, that'd be great!

I've been going through my trading cards recently, and noticed that this card in particular has an error!
Toshinao Aoki was not the original artist for this card. The correct artist (Naoyo Kimura) was credited on later prints.

It's kind of amusing that of all the cards I needed to finally complete the base set, it was this Revive trainer card. I remember owning it years ago and giving it to a friend, thinking I had several.
Thankfully, I finished the base set a few years ago before the price of cards went out of control.

I'm checking the Pokémon TCG leaderboard, and apparently, I'm in the top 5% of players.

La finalidad del mazo es sacar Charizard EX siempre, de ahí que tengamos el Arceus V Star, que con su habilidad de V Star podemos buscar dos cartas en la baraja, así como la habilidad de Pidgeot EX Quick Search, que cada turno nos permite buscar una carta del mazo, por lo que podemos traernos todo. El Mew nos permite coger items cada turno, por ejemplo, un Rare Candy para evolucionar de un Charmander a nuestro preciado Charizard EX. El Victini EX está porque nos permite por pocas energías meter 220 de ataque, y si muere y perdemos dos cartas de premio, nos viene hasta bien por el ataque del Charizard EX, que añade 30 de daño por cada Prize card que haya cogido el enemigo, por lo que si nos mata a Victini después de este haber hecho 220 de daño, Charizard EX podría hacer 240. El Radiant Charizard está porque mete 250 (una maldita burrada para ser una carta normal básica), y si la sacamos en mid/late game, cuesta muy pocas energías.
He resumido un poco bastante lo que hace el mazo, y todavía estoy trasteando con él para mejorarlo, pero bueno, os podéis hacer una idea. Es uno de los mazo más "famosos" y jugados en PTCGL ahora mismo, simplemente he hecho un par de cambios que se adaptaban mejor a mi gameplay.

We had a super fun #PokemonTCG Obsidian Flames draft today.
Nobody managed to get any good lines they tried to build so 3 players finished with 2-1 and other 3 with 1-2. Very chaotic but fun matches.

Pretty amazed I didn't throw this away. An empty booster from the Pokémon Trading Card Game Neo Destiny expansion, likely from around March-April 2002! Togetic is one of my favourite gen 2 Pokémon.
This could very well be the final booster pack I purchased before quitting collecting at that time.

Are there Pokémon TCG fans out there that still attempt to complete their Wizards of the Coast sets? During 2019 before the prices went out of control, I managed to finish off my Fossil, Base and Jungle sets with relative ease. Then in 2022 I managed to complete the Team Rocket set after buying the remaining holo cards at a reasonable price.
But for the Neo sets (Genesis, Discovery, Revelation and Destiny) it has been incredibly difficult. I understand the cards are less common due to the popularity of the series falling off at that point, however i can't help but feel I'll never finish them, and that's kinda sad.
What are your experiences?

Last year, a friend gave me this awesome Lugia card from the Japanese Neo Genesis set while we were having a drink at a local coffee shop. It was a card I always remember wanting when I first saw it online in the early 2000s, hoping that someday i'd finally own it, but I never pulled my own card from any booster packs.
Originally I declined it, telling him it was far too generous, but after about twenty minutes, and knowing that I may never see one again, I asked him if he was sure about giving it to me. He handed it over, and the rest is history. It was a generous gift!

This base set Blastoise card is very special to me, not just because it's a shadowless, something I realised many years after obtaining it, but because of the person who gave it to me.
An online friend of mine called Jesse would trade, gift or sell Pokémon related items with me in the mail, and this was one of the trading cards he sent to me.
I learned that Jesse passed away a few years ago, which was devastating for me at the time. Sometimes I flip through my folder and see this card, and I am reminded of the friendship we had back then.

How to sort a collection where items don't have inherit order (but still kinda do)?
I've been exploring that this week as I've worked out how to sort a #PokemonTCG deck for my upcoming deck builder app.
While there's no inherit order, there's some precedence and expectations from what has been done before.
I've also updated the Pokemon TCG card viewer Firefox add-on to support Scarlet & Violet cards + fixed it to work in Youtube again!
Install 1.4.0 from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/pokemon-tcg-card-viewer/ to your Firefox!
So, Pokemon has this older online client called Pokemon TCG Online. Now they've been building a new one called Pokemon TCG Live.
Online provides an export function for decks and Live provides an import function.
They are not compatible.
So I built a converter. Get your old decks to the new system and keep on playing!

When the cards I ordered arrived in a soggy-but-dried-and-ripped envelope like this, I was ready for the worst.
Miraculously, all the cards survived the trip and are in sweet good condition 😍

1.2.0 of Pokemon TCG Card Viewer Firefox extension is now available.
It enables #PokemonTCG players to see the card images when hovering over or keyboard focusing on PTCGO codes (like "BRS 120").
It adds support for the newest Silver Tempest set.
