Modern "condensing" furnaces will commonly have a separate motor/blower for the exhaust flue, but I'm not talking about that one.
For decades, the furnace motor was a bog-standard #AC motor with two terminals. A #relay controlled by the furnace control system (in turn controlled by your thermostat) would turn the #power to the #motor off and on, and that was it.
Simple. Reliable. Simple AC motors can go for decades without a problem, especially if you oil them periodically.

How Agencies That Promote Nuclear Power Are Quietly Managing Its Disaster Narrative
Let’s start with the total amount of radiation that the Fukushima-Daiichi nuclear power plant still contains today.
The spent fuel at the site contains 85 times more cesium-137 than Chornobyl and 50,000 to 100,000 times more than the Hiroshima bomb.
In the end, they are forcing the victims to endure radiation exposure and ultimately abandoning them.

Battery life/power electricity saving tips for any devices ranging from phones, pc, laptops.
But without downgrading the experience to unbareable levels, such as lower the screen brightness and slowing down the phone.
1. The screen. You don't actually need to really worry about lowering the screen brightness to save battery life and ultamately this doesn't do much really to save power as the screen is still on anyways and really just makes the device more dificult to use. Heres what you should do instead, lower the screen time out. Lowering it to even just 1 minute of inactivity can reduce power consumtion significantly. Because when the screen times out it is completely off and this saves the most power.
I recommend 30 second timeout for phones and 2 minutes for pc/laptop.
2. Sdd/sdcard/harddrives: you want to avoid writing to the disc so much, which can be hard to do
Things to try to avoid doing.
Deleting things and redownloading the same things such as games.
Block Auto updates at all costs and maybe schedule to update your apps manually every 1-4 weeks.
If your trying to save space or be uptodate day 1 by doing these, your using more power then neccesary.
3. Background processes/apps.
Some apps/programs people happen to install may not always have the beest intentions and may use up power
Things you can try to do to fix or reduce the issue.
1. Check to see if the app itself has a power save setting. Do this before going on to later steps if it is an app you actively use as other steps could break the app, at your own risk.
2. Go into your devices app settings to see if they offer ways to reduce power use of the specific app/program.
3. Uninstall the app.
4. Enable your devices power/battery saver mode.

Instead of succumbing to the Machiavellian worldview—which unfortunately leads us to select Machiavellian leaders—we must promote a different model of power, one rooted in social intelligence, responsibility, and cooperation.
When it comes to power, social intelligence—reconciling conflicts, negotiating, smoothing over group tensions—prevails over social Darwinism.
Sure, safety and security are important, but they must follow the research not define it.
Machines can cause harm only when in operation.
IMO the best (only) way to assure security and safety is confining #AI to the language (consulting) domain, preventing it from having too much agency such as “pushing buttons”.
Also, if it becomes too smart it is useless to us, and I’m sure we’ll find a way to “dumb it down”.
The truth is that intelligence is never a precondition for getting into a position of power. Quite the opposite.

A World of Slaves:
Most Americans haven’t seen what’s coming.
Nancy MacLean notes that when the #Kochs’ control of the GOP kicked into high gear after the financial crisis of 2007-08, many were so stunned by the “shock-and-awe” tactics of #shutting #down government, #destroying #labor unions, and #rolling #back #services that meet citizens’ basic necessities that few realized that many leading the charge had been trained in economics at Virginia institutions, especially George Mason University.
Wasn’t it just a new, particularly vicious wave of partisan politics?
MacLean convincingly illustrates that it was something far more disturbing.
MacLean is not the only scholar to sound the alarm that the country is experiencing a #hostile #takeover that is well on its way to radically, and perhaps permanently, altering the society.
Peter #Temin, former head of the MIT economics department, INET grantee, and author of "The Vanishing Middle Class", as well as economist Gordon #Lafer of the University of Oregon and author of "The One Percent Solution", have provided eye-opening analyses of where America is headed and why.
MacLean adds another dimension to this dystopian big picture, acquainting us with what has been overlooked in the capitalist right wing’s playbook.
She observes, for example, that many liberals have missed the point of strategies like #privatization.
Efforts to “reform” #public #education and #Social #Security are not just about a preference for the private sector over the public sector, she argues. You can wrap your head around those, even if you don’t agree.
Instead, MacLean contends, the goal of these strategies is to radically alter power relations, #weakening pro-public forces and #enhancing the #lobbying #power and commitment of the corporations that take over public services and resources, thus advancing the plans to #dismantle #democracy and make way for a return to #oligarchy.
The majority will be held captive so that the wealthy can finally be free to do as they please, no matter how destructive.
MacLean argues that despite the rhetoric of Virginia school acolytes, shrinking big government is not really the point.
The #oligarchs require a government with tremendous new powers so that they can bypass the will of the people.
This, as MacLean points out, requires greatly #expanding #police #powers “to control the resultant popular anger.”
The spreading use of pre-emption by GOP-controlled state legislatures to suppress local progressive victories such as living wage ordinances is another example of the right’s #aggressive use of #state #power.
MacLean notes that in #Flint, Michigan, Americans got a taste of what the emerging oligarchy will look like — it tastes like #poisoned #water. There, the Koch-funded Mackinac Center pushed for legislation that would allow the governor to take control of communities facing emergency and put unelected managers in charge.
In Flint, one such manager switched the city’s water supply to a polluted river, but the Mackinac Center’s lobbyists ensured that the law was fortified by protections against lawsuits that poisoned inhabitants might bring. Tens of thousands of children were exposed to #lead, a substance known to cause serious health problems including brain damage.
Libertarian economist Tyler #Cowen has provided an economic #justification for this kind of #brutality, stating that where it is difficult to get clean water, private companies should take over and make people pay for it. “This includes giving them the right to cut off people who don’t—or can’t—pay their bills,” he explains.
To many this sounds grotesquely #inhumane, but it is a way of thinking that has deep roots in America.
In "Why I, Too, Am Not a Conservative" (2005), Buchanan considers the charge of #heartlessness made against the kind of classic liberal that he took himself to be.
MacLean interprets his discussion to mean that people who “failed to foresee and save money for their future needs” are to be treated, as Buchanan put it, “as #subordinate members of the species, akin to…#animals who are dependent.’”
Do you have your education, health care, and retirement personally funded against all possible exigencies?
Then that means #you.
In 1965 James M. Buchanan launched a center dedicated to his theories at the University of Virginia, which later relocated to George Mason University.
Nancy MacLean describes how he trained thinkers to push back against the Brown v. Board of Education decision to desegregate America’s public schools and to challenge the constitutional perspectives and federal policy that enabled it.
She notes that he took care to use economic and political precepts, rather than overtly racial arguments, to make his case, which nonetheless gave cover to racists who knew that spelling out their prejudices would alienate the country.
All the while, a ghost hovered in the background — that of John C. #Calhoun of South Carolina, senator and seventh vice president of the United States.
Calhoun was an intellectual and political powerhouse in the South from the 1820s until his death in 1850, expending his formidable energy to defend slavery. Calhoun, called the “#Marx of the #Master #Class” by historian Richard Hofstadter, saw himself and his fellow southern oligarchs as victims of the majority.
Economists Tyler #Cowen and Alexander #Tabarrok, both of George Mason University, have noted the two men’s affinities, heralding Calhoun “a precursor of modern #public #choice theory” who “anticipates” Buchanan’s thinking.
MacLean observes that both focused on how #democracy constrains property owners and aimed for ways to restrict the latitude of voters.
She argues that unlike even the most property-friendly founders Alexander Hamilton and James Madison, Buchanan wanted a private governing #elite of #corporate #power that was wholly released from public accountability.
Suppressing voting, changing legislative processes so that a normal majority could no longer prevail, sowing public distrust of government institutions— all these were tactics toward the goal.
But the Holy Grail was the #Constitution: alter it and you could increase and secure the power of the wealthy in a way that no politician could ever challenge.
The #Koch network is among the largest & most #influential #political orgs of the last half century, & it’s underwritten a far-reaching campaign to influence the course of #American #law. In a case the#SCOTUS will hear this coming term, the justices could give the network a historic victory: limiting #FederalAgencies’ #power to issue #regulations in areas ranging from the #environment to #LaborRights to #ConsumerProtection.
#Senator #RobertMenendez (D-NJ) & his wife have been #indicted on #federal #bribery charges offenses, #DOJ ofcls announced Fri morning.
#Menendez & his wife, Nadine Menendez, allegedly accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars of #bribes from #NewJersey business execs in exchange for using the senator’s #power & #influence to help them, according to the #indictment.
Whatever Russia & China are, they are not communist countries, because communism doesn't have one leader or a minority of leaders.
Not even a "supreme" oppressive leader.
Not even billionaire leaders.
Democracies can choose leaders. They can also choose the losers that have led them into a #ClimateCrisis (plus war, etc.....)
@rmattila74 There are times when hierarchies are very useful, even essential. Innovation can be one of them.
But I'm certain we have to find a solution that doesn't just throw hands in the air and permit individuals and small groups amass immense economic #power beyond democratic control. The risks are just too great.
I can think of a few ideas, and would love to hear more, and feedback:
THEN it may be possible to set safe, universally respected #limits to the use of powerful technologies and finite resources.
Because only fair, democratic sharing
a. reduces the pressure to compete, and
b. gives those in danger of being exploited enough power and resources to defend themselves.
This vicious cycle has to be broken before it breaks our human #civilization .
I've given the matter considerable thought yet haven't found durable solutions - except one:
distribution of #power .
To stop the cycles of exploitation and prevent new ones,
1. No being should have so little power that exploiting them is easy;
2. No being should have so much power that exploiting others is easy.
In other words, I believe #democracy is THE answer.

I believe that #power corrupts, and it doesn't matter who you are.
I know people are saying that power only corrupts a certain type of person, or that certain types of people who are more susceptible to becoming corrupt are more likely to be drawn to positions of power.
But I don't think it matters if you're Mother Theresa; if you're presented with the opportunity to steal a million dollars and nobody will find out, you're GOING to be tempted. Maybe you resist that temptation once. Or twice. Or five times. But if you tempt someone -- *anyone* -- enough times, they WILL eventually succumb to that temptation.
It's part of the human condition. It's why we have so many checks and balances, and it's also why in a democracy, it's common that no person be allowed to hold office for more than a certain number of terms, for example (and I think that should extend to parties too).
From a Christian perspective, it's why Jesus died. Because there is literally no way for any human being to live a completely righteous, sin-free life.
The operation of power through polysemy:
Take, for example, the common management phrase “We see you.”
“We see you” can be intended to mean “I appreciate the work you are doing.”
“We see you” can also mean “I’m keeping an eye on you/don’t step out of line.”

"The Praetorian Guard (Latin: cohortēs praetōriae) was an elite unit of the Imperial Roman army that served as personal bodyguards and intelligence agents for the Roman emperors.
During the Roman Republic, the Praetorian Guards were escorts for high-ranking political officials (senators and procurators) and were bodyguards for the senior officers of the Roman legions. In 27 BC, after Rome's transition from republic to empire, the first emperor of Rome, Augustus, designated the Praetorians as his personal security escort. For three centuries, the guards of the Roman emperor were also known for their palace intrigues, by whose influence upon imperial politics the Praetorians could overthrow an emperor and then proclaim his successor as the new caesar of Rome. In AD 312, Constantine the Great disbanded the cohortes praetoriae and destroyed their barracks at the Castra Praetoria."
