One question I get a lot at conventions is whether the sleeves on display are actually socks. 😅 I figured a lovely hand model might help with that - but it's just a bit too slender to really show off the sleeves. Learning to be okay in my life allowed me to create what I wanted to create instead of what I thought I needed to create. Those two things were very different.
This is what creating from pain looks like. When you're creating just to solve problems, you're not necessarily doing the things you actually want to be doing. You're doing what you think you need to but that doesn't necessarily solve the problem either.
What I learned the really hard way was that the problems would only be solved when I did the things I wanted to do. Everything else was just a distraction and an excuse to stay stuck in the pain.
Creating from pain really does create more pain.
When you shift your focus away from the pain and actually create what you want, you'll get there a lot faster and you'll feel better while you do it.
You don't have to create from pain. You just have to shift your focus away from the problems you keep thinking need your attention.
The problems don't need your attention, but your dreams do. They are waiting for you.

#Reflection is the fourth step of #ProblemSolving (Understand, Plan, Implement,Reflect).
It is rare to solve problems on the first go, especially complicated ones.
Hm... I've tried doing a time-consuming #3dprint (40+ hours) for the first time on my Kingroon KP3S Pro (I've had it for a couple of months).
Tried it twice (with slightly different print settings, a tweak of the input shaper and a new SD-card in-between), and both times it's failed because the printer and the Raspberry Pi stopped talking (I'm using Klipper with Fluidd). Both times it failed at about 22 hours. Need to look at some logs I think...
When people tell me "you're going to regret that in the morning" I sleep in until noon because I'm a problem solver.
I enjoy feeding #ChatGPT complex technology problems to see what kind of solutions it recommends, and guiding it towards something that actually works.
It does a few things for me:
- I learn more about the tool.
- I get to see how adept the platform actually is at #ProblemSolving.
- I get to make use of my problem solving skills.
- I might create something really useful in the process.
I’m interested to see how it continues to #evolve over time. It’s honestly interesting.
Often, the solution to what I'm looking for can be found by spending a lot of time in nature.

The model consists of 4 stages: Preparation, Incubation, Illumination, and Verification.
I have read about similar but older models from the more general problem-solving literature in the past. But I can't seem to find these anymore!

@fraying "...pretending problems don’t exist is not a solution to those problems. In fact, it only guarantees that the problems will get worse." So true! One of my first lessons (shows how fast a learner I am[!]) about problems not magically going away was thinking that my slipping clutch on my 1972 Super Beatle was going to get better as I drove up the mountain. That did not go well! Unfortunately when #ProblemSolving the best solution(s) are not always the most obvious ones.

🧵 A potentially long and rambling thread: I've mentioned that #permaculture #design principles can be useful in #architectures, #ProcessEngineering, and lots of other #systemic use cases. But it's very hard to articulate how, when 99% of the related material online has to do with #gardening techniques.
So in this thread I'll try to give some hard examples of how I've used this in both #business #ProblemSolving and in #software design.
These are not short examples to dig into, but here goes:
Coworker asked me how I figure out problems in code so quickly sometimes.
And this is a very frustrating question because I don't have a particularly good answer - I wish I knew how to teach it effectively.
My process is, as best as I can put into words is:
Think really hard about how you want the world to be. Then `git grep` the code until you find the place where reality is different.

My name is Melvin (they/them), #AuDHD, & I'm happy to be in a space populated by other neurodivergent folks 😺 .
I've had a muuuch higher success rate in harmonious relationships with other ND folks (& queer folks, which is the uniting factor of the other server I'm on).
I doubted the validity of my "membership" to both these groups for a long time (imposter syndrome, anyone?), but having that self-knowledge in the last few years has really helped me get my life set up in a somewhat manageable way -- e.g. finding covid-cautious, very quiet & non-judgmental folks to live with (they're both queer and #AuDHD! It's *not* perfect but it's SAFE) and making a new irl friendship back in February with yet another queer, AuDHD person, which has been so great; we met on OkCupid where I occasionally have a profile for the sole purpose of finding new friends (I hate dating and consider myself #GrayAce, but I DO really wanna find meaningful friendships that might still be around 10 years from now 🤞) since it offers a heavy filtration system and the opportunity to discuss covid precautions BEFORE being physically near one another.
