Question for #QA folks for a friend, what sort of path do folks usually take to get into QA engineer roles? This person has previous experience doing server administration at hosting companies, linux, bash, etc. but has been out of tech for a while (6 or so years) and is looking for a path back in. They like documentation and breaking things!

I've witnessed cases where business decisions have been made to ship something even though QA found tons of issues.
The "business people" in charge often seem to think that shipping something that is known to be broken is better than not shipping on time.
I see this as a problem with today's "hype" culture.
The marketing department is often given free reign to generate as much anticipation as possible which puts so much pressure on the developers to keep a release date that important quality improvements are not made until the product has already been shipped.
That's why I sometimes miss the old days where software couldn't be easily patched.
Companies actually had to make sure that the software was in decent shape because there was no easy way to distribute patches.

I am interested in a wide range of related sub-topics including #inspection #self-evaluation #culturally responsive evaluation etc. I am Director of the Centre for Evaluation, Quality & Inspection (EQI) at DCU. But some of those #lyrics are a bit different, and it throws me off every time when what I sing doesn't match what the book 'sings'; it makes me think I either skipped a line, or that my pronunciation is off.

Using the password manager in #Firefox on iphone is a bit of a hassle. I have encountered forms that didn't recognize any values got put into the fields. I had to edit the fields manually to get them to work and get me logged in.

Oh, dear. #MSOutlook for #iOS can't handle receiving more than a handful of emails at a time. If it needs to load 20 emails from a server, its UI freezes. Entirely unusable. And not for a second or so. Minutes! It's like they're loading the emails in the UI thread instead of in the background, like Mastodon clients do.

#TIL: the #MSWindows #TaskScheduler on #Windows10 can be used to adjust scheduled tasks on remote servers. But it's hard to get the scheduled date to change: you MUST open the calendar dropdown by mouse, and you MUST click a date by mouse. Keyboard control will get ignored, and not cause the schedule to update.

There are so, so many #GUI-based #installers that can't even be bothered to support the basic #accessibility that is built in by default into every single #MSWindows edition, and has been from very early on. A good way to test the #accessibility of your #software #installer #GUI is to switch your operating system into an inverse visual theme: white text on a black background. If all of a sudden, your installer becomes useless, you have some work to do. #qualityAssurance
