Flowering #quince is always such a shy retiring introverted kind of shrub, don't you think?

A breathtaking early spring explosion of hundreds of coral-pink flowering quince blossoms, emerging from dozens of long and relatively narrow quince stems, with a few fairly boring green leaves budding out in the upper portion of the image, and a couple of unrelated largish tree trunks visible in the background. The quince blossoms are so amazingly numerous and distracting that you can't tell what kind of trees they are (actually they are large junipers). Southwest Washington State (USA). April 13th, 2023.

My thing is growing from seed. Unfortunately, it can take 8-10 years for any amount of fruit. But I still did it. One of my quince from seed bushes, has a few fruit already.

#Quince shown, are just regular ornamental quince. I think one is King Crimson name? Anyway, they were in 6 inch pots, and produce a bucket of fruit each year per shrub.

Once you see these in the spring, probably about May-June, you can't unsee them. Ask if you can pick them

The pink quince flowers are the only ones which seem to be hardy enough to fair alright during the spring frosts we still have. It is also the only one of our flowering quince which produces fruits and delicious jam and quince cheese. Quince cheese is a delicacy found in gourmet cheese shops and rather expensive. I make enough each year to gift during the holidays. The white and peach quince flowers all show signs of frost damage. That damage looks like rust and does not make for a good macro photograph. I hope they recover and I can add some of those before the flowering season is over.

This stunning quince floral macro is a treat and will look amazing in the contemporary modern space. The pastel colors give this composition a fresh and crisp feeling like the cool spring morning it was photographed. The view is slightly below and up towards the flower. I love the shadow of the stamen on the quince flower petal. It's natures time stamp on this art work.

@macanders Did you know that you can eat the quince fruits?
Yes they are no bigger than golf balls and as hard as nails, but they are like supercharged apples on steroids! Slice thinly (you will need a SHARP knife and a steady hand) and slide these slices under the skin of a chicken before roasting. They go well with roast pork too. Or microwave the slices for a while and add to an apple pie.

I love how the raindrops were sitting on the flower petals and wanted to bring the viewer's eye to that point of interest. The view is a little below eye level, feeling like you stepped up to the quince bush looking up towards the sky. Opting for a macro lens allows me to edit out the busy surroundings of the quince blossom. The flowering quince bush has lots of flowering branches crisscrossing behind the blossom. I remember reading that a new baby #quince tree shouldn't be allowed to bear fruit, but I don't remember whether I should do that after the 1st year. Now I can't find anything about it. Any #gardening or #horticulture people know the answer? It still looks like a 1
meter stick w/ 2 or 3 stubby branches.
