(Of course Twitter isn't to be singled out here, much of the same holds for all the corporate silos. The #RIPTwitter case is particularly egregious because the #enshittification (thanks @pluralistic) has really sped up after the #TwitterTakeover, and at the same time the #TwitterMigration at the end of 2022 showed that there IS a viable alternative, and entire communities found their way here.)
Interestingly, neither the app-to-app switch nor the #RIPTwitter belief hold that much under scrutiny, since for both one would have expected the pumped up toot numbers to last for longer. Unless it was just a quick turnover for the time necessary to expunge the third-party apps and install the official one.
The iOS drawer pattern was one of my favorites—opening up the UI to expose a hidden, textured set of controls.
That quickly extended to clever apps like Tweetie
