So. Here’s the thing: I loved D&D as a youth, although it’s been decades since I last played (but I still have the dice!). As a digital alternative, the only thing I’ve found that gives me the same joy are two games from Spiderweb Software: Avernum (6 separate games in the same world) and Avadon (3 games in the same world). Both give many, many (many!) hours of adventuring fun, and can be returned to and played again and again.
I’m considering trying Baldur’s Gate.

Speaking of yesterday's #rpg, the GM waxed poetic about the Black Void game. Any experience with that? Graphically it looked impressive (as per usual with Modiphius), but I wonder about the group buy-in necessary for such a weird setting. Although that might turn out to be rather different in actual play and I've been Laubensteined by the illustrations I saw.
Finally got around to play the Blades in the Dark #rpg yesterday. It went okay. Still not a fan of all that heavy-handed procedure stuff, but we had fun with the Doskvol setting.

Anyone out there in #rpg development know a thing or two about book layouts? Or alternatively have recommendations for folks that do? I've been shopping around and I know generally what I'd like to do, but it's hard to tell one Fiverr job from another. I'd also be fine with any kind of template that works in InDesign / Affinity Designer.
Early Dark Eye #rpg illustrations were known for often citing Hollywood actors, with e.g. the viking lord being based on Robert Mitchum, the chief general being Malcolm McDowell etc.
I wonder whether this will actually come back a lot. I mean, if you're using the new-fangled statistics tools to generate your images, it's rather hard to repeat features. I can get a "stalwart warrior in chaimail wielding a battleaxe" very easily, but then might have issues getting the same "stalwart warrior" in a tavern, drinking beer. But if it's "Young Sean Connery in chainmail"...

I don't know how it completely flew under my radar, but I only just today learned about #SHIFT, a new #RPG system by #HitPointPress. There's a free preview over on https://hitpointpress.com/shiftrpg/ that includes a quickstart guide, character sheets, and an #adventure in their own Maelstrom game setting.
I'm always happy to see simpler systems that I can use for an impromptu one-shot, especially if they also bring something new to the table. I'm certainly looking forward to giving it a try.
Diablo Immortal has some of the most beautiful loading screen art I've ever seen in a game. The other Diablo games do too in some ways, but these are just BEAUTIFUL.
Also, the game is free to play, which is cool, and it doesn't have in-game ads or anything. I feel like it's the most fun, immersive mobile rpg I've ever played. You'll need a strong phone to run it, though. It's big and resource heavy. I have a new Samsung S21, these are screenshots from that. My old Samsung S7 could NEVER have run this properly.

I grew up watching Saturday morning cartoons, original #StarTrek re-runs, reading #Fantasy & #SciFi (not SyFy), lots of #Lego and eventually graduated to #RPG and #tabletop gaming.
My first computer was a #Commodore Vic-20 - at school, we learned graphical #LOGO on PETS and Apple IIe's... crashed the Unisys ICON network often before getting my first PC - grudgingly - really wanted an #Amiga.
Eventually, it was time for college - I *thought* I would be heavily involved in the physical aspects of technology, circuit design, and hardware engineering - instead, I gravitated to #programming.
