What do you do when you work with your hands, but working with your hands hurts your hands?
I’ve been trying to make adjustments to how I draw and type to reduce pain and (hopefully) avoid long-term issues, but it got me thinking about the whole idea of making, worrying about losing your ability to make, and all the messy feelings this brings up.

So I've discovered that voice control for computers has come a long way. I started learning perl a couple days ago, and I stumbled upon a video where somebody uses software called Talon to program in perl. So far I don't have severe RSI, but I feel like it will grow as I get older.

I think I've given myself #RSI from an alternative keyboard layout.
I hit the Super key with my left thumb, and use every key in the ASCII range for something, and half of them again with shift.
I don't know what better layout I might use, but when I find one, I'll be unlearning six years of muscle memory.

@judell @gvwilson I related to this a lot, thanks for writing it. I get #RSI in my right hand, from typing, writing, and drawing. It started during my senior year exams in high school and since then I kind of have to manage it on a daily basis.
One of my main issues is that I do the remapping and then the second pain goes away - go back to my usual, “easy” way. And the pain starts again.
I've been spending more off-work time on the computer. Also, my hands and right upper arm have been hurting more and more. Nighttime #RSI supports did nothing at best.
Noticed yesterday the right arm pain lined up with how I was holding the mouse. Moved the mouse to my left hand!
My right arm still hurts, but now my left is starting to. 🙁
I did start a stretch reminder app, so maybe that will help. (I could also start doing something besides computers, but let's call that Plan B.)

Adapting to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: What would you do if you could no longer use a keyboard and mouse?
In an ongoing effort to relieve the constant pain of #RSI in my right arm (cubital tunnel syndrome) I have switched to a left-hand mouse. This has the immediate bonus of allowing me to never move my right hand away from home row, but also makes the mouse comparatively uncomfortable to use so I habitually reach for it less. Win/win.
@fitz I know nothing about #arthritis, but contoured/keywell #ErgonomicKeyboards are known to help alleviate #RSI pain, so maybe they help you too.
And when it comes to tenting, I'm pretty sure nothing beats the new #Glove80. And as it uses mechanical switches, it could be more robust as the Freestyle, but as I never had that keyboard and Glove80 is new, I of course can't know for sure.

I'm a #disability #advocate who loves to hear about disabled people being able to find #accommodations that might lead to #employment as much of the workforce is #ableist. some companies are more active in computing that enabled disabled people.
