Just finished reading East of Ealing, the third book in Robert Rankin's Brentford a trilogy that currently stands at 11 #books .
As usual a throughly delightful read, 4/5 stars. 👍

Because I'm about 100 pages in and just. Meh. Not sure I understand the fuss. I don't know what I'm missing.
Except maybe I just came off of reading Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver and whoa. Deep and dark and rich.

Publisher is reading through my manuscript and apparently approves the fight scenes... which are like 60% of the book.
Honestly, aside the ending, those had me the most nerve-wracked. 1, because there are more POVs. 2, the scene hopping... 3, the Godzilla fight scenes.
But then it's also the fear of being boring. The stakes keep going insanely up, but... do readers get bored with perpetual fights?

After the Great Darkness of 1999, many wondered about the fate of all the boats (and the people on them) out to sea that year. While no one can know for sure, there have been sightings of various ships some believe to be the missing vessels. These immense boats are often called "Zombie ships" or "Hell Barges" due to their unearthly and ghastly appearances. Some have rotting corpses and bones clung to their surface like barnacles, while others seem to possess writhing tentacles as if the vessels had a life of their own. However, none of the massive things seem to show signs of human life, only an outre and horrific transmogrification beyond human understanding.

So I've finally finished the #Spellslinger series ending with Sebastien De Castell's #CrownBreaker.
It's one of those series I'm really sad to finish but really happy to have read (or listened to). It's definitely a #series. I will revisit. Loved the #characters, the #magical systems and #worldbuilding. Must #read for #fantasy #readers.

MCD, an imprint of Farrar, Straus and Giroux, has announced the launch of AUWA #Books, an imprint directed by Ahmir "#questlove" Thompson, the longtime drummer and joint frontman for the #roots.
AUWA will publish #fiction and #nonfiction titles, and is "devoted to finding inspiring new #stories and connecting #readers to lost voices."

I wrote to the Association of American Publishers today. I can't expect they care, but at least the copy sent to the #InternetArchive will explain the donation they receive from me.
Between the attempted Penguin Random House Simon & Schuster racket and Hachette v. Internet Archive, #authors and #readers have now all been betrayed indiscriminately. I hope the situation motivates more of my favourite authors into migrating to independent #publishers; I certainly will be.

The most chronically online #bookish take I’ve seen recently is that you shouldn’t give a #book a bad review or DNF it publically because those actions hurt authors’ feelings
I’m surprised that this sentiment gained as much traction as it did, seems like common sense that reviews and DNF shelves are for the #readers not the #authors

I was digging inside old/used books stores earlier...
I felt myself sorrounded by many ghosts from those old books. Yes, sometimes may be creepy but at same time was so pleasant. Reminds me of Shion Miura's words about those old books.
