We're a group of dub activists that has been working hard for many years to get the roots/dub/sound system scene up and running in Denmark. Today is a cornerstone in our struggle with the release of a vinyl double LP with some of the central producers on the scene. It's a high quality vinyl with max 15 mins per side, so it's playable in the dance. And of cause all contributions include dub versions as well.
And yeah you can just buy the digi version if you're not at vinyl type of dude!

Sublime release their first LP - “40 Oz To Freedom”
Sublime was basically a SoCal party band from Long Beach. They played a lot, put out a cassette tape, and grew their audience over the coming years. The popularity of this first album grew over time, helped mostly (iirc) the airplay the song “Date Rape” got on KROQ.
I got this in 1994 along with their second album, “Robbin’ The Hood”, and by way of my interest in label mates The Ziggens. The album opens with a sample from The Minutemen’s Double Nickels On The Dime, so right away I knew this was my jam.
I still enjoy Sublime’s blend of ska, reggae, punk, surf rock, and hip hop. It’s often low quality (lyrics, music quality, and even some of the backing vocals), all over the place stylistically, and sloppy.
It's a perfect expression of the old school punk DIY ethos.

Bob Marley died on 11 May 1981 in Miami, Florida, aged 36, due to the spread of melanoma to his lungs and brain. His final words to his son Ziggy were: "On your way up, take me up. On your way down, don't let me down."
Marley was given a state funeral in Jamaica on 21 May 1981 that combined elements of Ethiopian Orthodoxy and Rastafari tradition.

It's the last day of February. I was wondering about what to post to mark the occasion. Then "Bam Bam" by Sister Nancy came on. You think you don't know what I'm talking about? But you probably do. "Bam Bam" is probably the most sampled reggae/dancehall song ever. It came out in 1982 and while "One Two" and "Transport Connection" became hits in Jamaica, "Bam Bam" became an international hit. But Sister Nancy's producer hid its success from her. She moved to the USA in 1996, and the film "Belly," starring Nas and DMX, and featuring "Bam Bam" prominently, came out in 1998. It was then that she became aware of the song's enormous popularity. But it wasn't until 2014, when Reebok used it in an ad without credit, that she fought for her rights to the profits from its use, and won. She's still performing! And if you want to sample "Bam Bam," you should call her up--she might just do it live.

John Cale’s compilation album, Guts, slowed down about 27% (you can toy with this using YouTube’s playback controls or something like Audacity/ any DAW if you have a copy of the CD wink)
This is a fun thing my father-in-law discovered when he bought the LP back in the day. For some reason, Guts was released in the US as a 45 RPM record sized as a 33 RPM record (something that should’ve been 7″ was released at 12″), so he thought he was supposed to play the album as a 33 for a while. Later on, he discovered the songs were recorded faster when he picked up the CD reissue. Ultimately, he decided he preferred the album slowed down 🤣.

Seminal 2002 album Original Pirate Material & in particular this track did push things forward.
Fusion of Reggae, Garage, Drum n Base with an unapologetically UK spittin style full of storytelling & commentary. It carved out some new musical space. A lot of grime writing followed after as social commentary, turning away from garage 2step club/party scene.
