Hab mir in Vorbereitung auf das #RoboCop Game nochmal den 1. Film von Paul Verhoeven (gesprochen „Verhuven“) angesehen. Der ist auf so vielen Ebenen großartig. Kritik an der militärischen Aufrüstung, fehlende Menschlichkeit in der Polizei, die Dynamik zwischen Privatwirtschaft und Politik usw. Auf der anderen Seite sind da herrlich skrupellose Bösewichte, charmante Special Effects und Splatter. Da freut sich der schlaue und der dumme Teil des Gehirns.

I'm a sucker for Heads Up Display technology on screen. We see two different HUDs from characters in RoboCop 2: RoboCop and RoboCop 2... aka Cain, respectively. This showcases the double meaning of the RoboCop 2 title well actually.

RoboCop 2 adds a "Plot Trajectory" overlay allowing RoboCop to ricochet rounds off surfaces and into the skulls of criminals. Pretty useful.

It's nice that Cain's HUD has a very different look and feel too.

Latest game I'm playing

It's very linear, without much to do so far. Seems to be a sequence of canned responses to many situations.

But after playing the 'novella' game of The Expanse, this seems more like an interactive story than a proper FPS.

Any movie that makes you feel for the bad guy is doing something right. In RoboCop 2, Cain gets his life support turned off, his brain scooped out, and then imprisoned in a cybernetic body.

As it turns out, Cain's brain isn't much of a match for RoboCop's clenched fist, thankfully.

No cóż, muszę przed sobą uczciwie przyznać, że nie wypalił mi ten okołohalloweenowy cykl wpisów z materiałami prasowymi o kinie grozy z czasów PRL-u. Zaprezentowałem tu raptem sześć skanów, ciekawych, owszem, ale było ich mniej, niż pierwotnie planowałem. Dlatego w najbliższym czasie będę je tu wciąż prezentował, obok wcześniejszego, wstrzymanego na chwilę, cyklu o peerelowskiej recepcji filmu fantastycznego. Materiały o filmie grozy – w piątki, a o fantastyce, jak wcześniej, we wtorki.

Dziś mam dla Was recenzję "Robocopa" (1987, Paul Verhoeven) – wyświetlanego w polskich kinach jako "Superglina – autorstwa Andrzeja Kołodyńskiego z 7. numeru "Filmu" z 1987 roku. Co ciekawe – nim trafił na kinowe ekrany, "Robocop" był już w Polsce dostępny na kasetach wideo.

Chyba zdradzałem się już z tym, że bardzo sobie cenię krytykę filmową Andrzeja Kołodyńskiego i ogromną robotę, jaką wykonał w popularyzacji kina fantastycznego i pogłębionej refleksji nad nim w Polsce. Co nie znaczy, że zawsze się zgadzałem z jego opiniami. A wspominam o tym, bo rzadko bardziej rozjeżdżały się nasze opnie niż w tej właśnie recenzji. Bo ja widzę tam więcej niż świetną realizację i niemądrą historyjkę.

Być może część z Was uzna to porównanie za naciągane, ale ja lubię zestawiać ze sobą postaci i pierwsze hollywoodzkie filmy Pula Verhoevena i Fritza Langa – w przypadku tego pierwszego właśnie "Robocopa", zaś drugiego film "Jestem niewinny" ("Fury") z 1936 roku. Obaj byli europejskimi twórcami, którzy wyemigrowali do USA ze świetnym wcześniejszym dorobkiem, a ich hollywodzkie debiuty były gatunkową publicystyką, uderzającą w amerykańskie instytucje związane z przestępczością i utrzymywaniem porządku publicznego – u Langa był to lincz, a u Verhoevena policja.

No dobra, ale miał być wpis z archiwalną recenzją, a nie moimi przemyśleniami na temat "Robocopa", tak więc, nie przedłużając już, zachęcam do rzucenia okiem na tekst Kołodyńskiego.

The most mundane side missions turn into extremly well designed character bits, not only for #RoboCop, but the side characters as well. Hell, everyone at the precinct has their own personality and cares for their fellow service members.

Inferior in many, many ways. The iconic music? Gone. Interesting villains? Gone. The action? Not gone and there's much more of it this time, but it sinks into early 90's effects fest trash.
Also: That kid character is clearly a demented #FrankMiller idea. Of course he'd end up being played by Littlefoot from A Land Before Time. #RoboCop #movies

Rewatched #RoboCop

One of the best 80's action movies and one where everything comes together so nicely. RoboCop wouldn't even be half as good without #PaulVerhoeven directing and #PeterWeller playing the role. They're helped by a tremendous score, an A+ supporting cast, great effects work, excellent writing, and an incredible sense of humour.

The satire has aged shockingly well, given it was made 36 years ago. #movies
