I have two sets of stories, one of little known Greek and Roman myths (such as an alternate version of Achilles' heel), and one of Caucasian Nart sagas (since we have Sarmatian reenactors on site). My little archeologist heart is happy 😊

Manon Fargetton revient à la fantasy en Octobre, sous la bannière de Gallimard Jeunesse (donc vraisemblablement en YA). Les marches des géants, premier tome du Cycle des secrets, débarque avec une édition brochée et une collector reliée, comme il se doit. C’est marrant, la tendance du collector relié a l’air de se répandre, c’est bien évidemment grâce à nous, le lobbying du #ComitePourLesHardbacksVF paye.

Bragelonne vient juste d’annoncer la parution prochaine d’une intégrale Le lion de Macédoine par David Gemmell, qui paraîtra en Octobre également (comme ça tu l’achètes pour Noël, t’as vu c’est malin). Jusqu’ici c’était Mnémos qui publiait ça mais apparemment Bragelonne a repris la main dessus, c’est vrai que ça faisait désordre ce petit Gemmell rebelle qui se promenait dans la nature.

J’ai récemment chroniqué (et beaucoup apprécié) Bluebird de Ciel Pierlot, et l’autrice nous reviendra en Juin 2024 avec de la fantasy ! (wouhou !) Le bouquin s’appellera The hunter’s gambit, le site de l’éditeur nous permet de lire le pitch, y a des vampires et de l’aventure, et on verra si ActuSF se penche sur la traduction.

Jørn Riel écrivait des #romans, des #contes et autres racontars arctiques. Ils savait comme personne plonger ses lecteurs de tous âges dans l’univers brut et rude des habitants des régions polaires, avec humour et émotion.
Plusieurs de ses romans ont été édités en beaux albums chez les éditions Sarbacane et raviront les amateurs d’Aventure.

En parlant avec quelqu'un ici, j'ai réalisé que ça faisait beaucoup trop de temps que je n'avais pas lu de #manga. In der römischen Kaiserzeit vor 2.000 Jahren war das nordhessische Kernland der Chatten wiederholt Aufmarsch- und Kampfgebiet römischer Feldherren. Unter dem Befehl von Drusus, dem Stiefsohn des Augustus, marschierten römische Legionen 9 v. Chr. von Mainz durch Nordhessen bis zur Elbe.
Dessen Sohn Germanicus überfiel 15 n. Chr. mit zehntausenden Legionären in einem Rachefeldzug sechs Jahre nach der Varusschlacht den kampfstarken Stamm der Chatten. Er zerstörte deren Kult- und Siedlungskern Mattium und verwüstete das gesamte Chattenland. Die Spuren dieser massiven römischen Präsenz in Nordhessen sind bislang kaum erforscht.
In diesem Buch werden römische Marschwege, Lagerplätze und Nachschubtrassen in Nordhessen und dessen Nachbarregionen durch die systematische Kombination römischer Geschichtsschreibung und archäologischer Funde und Befunde mit historischer Altstraßenforschung, geodätischen Informationssystemen und aktueller Airborne Laserscan-Technik rekonstruiert. In principle, the position of #Mercedonius was supposed to switch back and forth in alternate #LeapYears, but this was never consistent. Even if it was, it would result in a mean year of 366.25 days, this giving a calendar that didn't track the #sun OR the #moon, because the #Romans were just *the worst* at timekeeping.
But wait! It gets worse!
The extra month in the #RomanCalendar was called #Mercedonius, and it *nominally* fell in the 2nd and 5th years of a five-year cycle.
Some say Februarius was shortened and Mercedonius lasted 27 days, others that Mercedonius was 23 days long and the rest of Februarius came after the end of Mercedonius, but neither is really the case. As far as the #Romans were concerned, the kalends of Mercedonius came 11 or 11 days after the ides of Februarius and that was that.
