Damit hätten vor einem Jahr mehr als 50% der Bevölkerung noch keinen Kontakt zu #SARS-CoV-2 gehabt.

This year's list of MacArthur “genius grants” ($800,000 over five years) is out, and I'm delighted to see that Linsey Marr made the cut. Marr is the aerosol-scientist-cum-medical-researcher who has been instrumental in finally awakening the public health establishment — including the WHO — to the simple fact that some pathogens spread via aerosols, and that SARS-CoV-2 is among that number. The establishment's aerosol blindness stretches back over more than half a century.

Long COVID.
That said, a bit of promising research is starting to surface.
I'm taking the unusual step of emailing EVERYONE because at this point
many of you with anxiety and depression symptoms may have some Long
COVID (brain fog, sleep issues, the depression or anxiety itself!).
A good write-up about what Long COVID is can be found here. Yes, you
can had a trivial case of COVID-19 and still get Long COVID symptoms for
days, weeks, months, or years. Some cases of it are somewhat "mild":

-- Get outside one hour per day.

It's not as if governments and public health are going to push it either.
I had an adverse reaction to the vaccine and need to see an allergist two weeks before a shot to get several shots of monoclonal antibodies to prevent a bad reaction (not life-threatening so far). And then get the vaccine in an allergy clinic in a hospital. It's a pain. Can't wait for the new one.
Meanwhile, my friends whine about having to walk into a pharmacy and get jabbed. "Again?" My eyes are rolling out of my head. I just don't understand.
It's so distressing. Talked on the phone with a close friend, our friendship decades old, who is sick. She never got the Covid vaccine, refuses to, and had a devastating case of #Delta a couple of years ago. She's obese with co-morbidities and over 65. She refuses to wear a mask.
I asked her if she took a Covid test. She insisted it was not Covid as the woman she got it from went to the doctor and the doc simply told her it was 'some virus'. So, she didn't even test.
She says she's really tired and when she's active it sets her back. She is wandering around without a mask. Tomorrow she's going to some church function and will be passing around her little gift.
I've stopped talking Covid with her because it's pointless. Still, it's distressing. We haven't seen each other since mask mandates were repealed here. She refuses to wear a mask, even for me (still working on that).
It occurred to me that she doesn't want to hear about Covid anymore. To her it's over. I realised that Covid interferes with what she wants to do- it's that simple.
So, the mere thought of Covid is inimical to her. The idea that it still exists, the enemy. No, wait, the fact that I would mention it as a possibility is the enemy. It's as if uttering the word is to be the bearer of bad news, to despoil, to inject darkness. She recoils.
I don't get it. It just makes me want to cry. This is the world now. Full of despair.

This excellent video was made by @johnsnowproject for Australia, but it applies to the whole world right now.
And it's not just deaths but Long Covid that we need to prevent.
Covid is causing huge numbers of people to be permanently damaged and disabled, far more than flu or everyday germs. The more often you have it, the more likely you are to get Long Covid.
"Living with covid" is like "living with global warming", it's a horrifying option that is only promoted because corporations don't want to take any short term hits to their profits.
Here's what we could do right now:
-High quality masks (FFP2/3, N95/99 etc)
-Better ventilation with open windows and HEPA filters
-Tests for anyone who wants one
-Legal protection for ill people to take time off work without loss of pay
-New air cleaning techniques like UV
-Develop vaccines that prevent infection in the first place, for example intranasal looks promising
There is 0 evidence that Covid-19 is mild.
Short term, ignoring it does boost the economy. Long term, it will destroy the economy. Anyone pushing to ignore it is looking to cash out quickly at the price of harming people.
Note that mild symptoms ≠ mild infection
Covid 19 is a vascular infection - when the symptoms are awful, it means it infected your lungs/respiratory tract heavily. That system has obvious symptoms of infection, so it's "bad".
Only one other organ has major symptoms of infection that relate to breathing - your blood. If your blood is infected, it loses capacity to carry oxygen, so breathing becomes more difficult.
Another organ, there are obvious symptoms of infection - you can lose your sense of taste and smell, experience fatigue, have trouble remembering things, feel like you're in a fog - that's a brain infection.
But other organs, Covid-19 can damage them, and you're unlikely to experience any symptoms, until they're damaged to the point they struggle to do their jobs. Heart, Liver, Kidneys, Pancreas, Intestines, Stomach, Bowels... the only symptoms are THEY STOP WORKING.
Every infection has potential to create new variants, which are less likely to be stopped by vaccines. Because it attacks your immune system, each infection makes you less protected from Covid, and everything else. Cold and Flu are worse after Covid. You're now immune compromised.
So no, Covid-19, a SARS virus (sort of true, SARS is Severe Acute *Respiratory* Syndrome, and Covid-19 isn't a respiratory virus, it's vascular... the most severe visible symptoms are when it infects the respiratory system, but visible ≠ most severe at all) key is SEVERE.
Get vaccinated, and wear a mask - the two mitigations that, when combined, give you a shot at not getting infected, and not doing severe damage to your body, and even if it doesn't kill you, shortening your lifespan. Remember the whole "every cigarette takes a day off your life"?
Well, every covid infection takes years off your life - and damage is cumulative. Each infection does more damage, and shortens your potential lifespan more than the last, also increasing the odds of long term disability and dysfunction.
SARS-CoV2-19 isn't a joke. And where it came from, who's responsible, is not relevant to anything when it comes to the effects the disease has on your body, it's going to keep doing its thing and killing/disabling people until we stop acting like it's no big deal.

Practical, first-hand suggestion if using a combined single swab: Nose first, then throat. The part of the throat you should be swabbing is not where your tastebuds are, whereas there’s a good chance that the back of your throat smells terrible.
Swabbing both the nose and the throat improves the accuracy of #COVID rapid tests:
“… combining the results of nasal and throat swabs or using a combined single swab… resulted in increased detection of #SARS-CoV-2 using a rapid antigen test, in an asymptomatic population. Importantly, no false positives were detected…”
#COVID-19 is more widespread in #animals than we thought.
The virus that causes the disease, #SARS-CoV-2, can infect a wide and growing range of animals, both captive and wild.
So far, the virus has been detected in more than a hundred domestic #cats and #dogs, as well as captive #tigers, #lions, #gorillas, snow #leopards, #otters, and spotted #hyenas.
