Why do we need yet another robots.txt tester?

Because the testers out there are toy tools. They test 1 URL & one user-agent only. You need a bulk tester.

e.g:
32 URLs x 5 User-agents = 160 tests.
Not fun.

You can do this with one line of code.

My 2nd notebook that does this (checks if you have disallowed URLs in your XML sitemap) was just added to the JupyterNaas repo, and you can use it right away:

Some time ago, I created a #linkbuilding database. After redoing it 3 times to make improvements, I think it is shareable now.

In short, it has a form to add websites and another form to add the links I get for my clients. With SQL commands, I have the software create the spreadsheets that keep everything organized.

The main advantage is that I don't repeat myself. Every datum is entered just once.

Would you be interested in a more information?

Here’s a surprising finding - the average page rank of links featured by AI is… 8.2

Most of those links appear at the bottom of the initial SERP and 40% of them aren’t even in the top 50 SERP results!

@admin I think it does in a good way.

Something I didn’t make explicit because I was trying to get this out quickly is that the pages linked in these AI summaries are often NOT the top ranking results.

I’ve noticed plenty of examples where the main source for AI was a link from the second page of results!

So this means less dominance by the same big companies with huge #SEO teams and more of a fair shot for all the little guys

SGE and Non-Deterministic Results

One thing I'm interested in learning is whether the content in the Google's new SGE changes by individual or over time.

Generative AI is non-deterministic (you get something different each time) but Google could be cacheing content for queries.

Or they could have a TTL of sorts so in another day it would be different.

And if the content is different it seems like the links might also be different. A tracking nightmare!

Looking at other people’s initial impressions of Google’s new AI search beta, and I feel like a lot of the discourse is kind of missing the point?

Yes, all the usual questions about #AI and #LLMs are still important. But what makes Google’s experiment in particular interesting is that it’s NOT a chatbot.

It’s a different UX for generative AI. And its an experience that is grounded in search versus Bing which felt like it was just a search-tinted coat of paint on top of ChatGPT

Google SGE First Thoughts

My hot take after using Google's SGE is that it is a hammer looking for a nail.

Specific hot takes:

I'm struck by the fact that the SGE treats most queries like instant answers. And that's not what I want when searching.

The amount of information in the SGE is often overwhelming and will likely cause paralysis.

It frequently gets the intent wrong for queries.

The SGE fires on terms it shouldn't.

#Google #SEO #SGE

Google Generative AI result for the query 'kendra scott walnut creek', which delivers a whole bunch of irrelevant information for a simple local search.

Bing seems to have a new feature on their video SERPs: upon hovering over one result, it offers a link ("More like this") to a specialized result page.

If it is a video from a YouTube channel, it also offers a link to a page, where more videos from that channel are displayed.

On this new page more videos from said channel are shown plus some basic key facts and a button to "Sign in to Follow".

Quick reminder how much SERP rankings change on a daily basis. This case is a B2B site so drops at weekends make sense as the intent for certain keywords changes and spikes as unexpected events, global and local, cause keywords and topics to become popular for short amounts of time as Google tests out what it needs to promote up the rankings (*my assumption). This is not the case, it's not bad for SEO. Yes, it's good to use last-modification date headers appropriately, as this helps with crawling efficiently, but it won't negatively affect your site's overall SEO if used wrongly. Your site won't rank lower. #seo
