Well said, Humza Yousaf:
"On asylum, the UK government has virtually eliminated any practical legal route for those that are fleeing war or persecution.
The policies of the UK government in this respect are not only morally repugnant, but they are economically illiterate."
"Multiple #SNP politicians including Fergus Ewing, Kate Forbes and Joanna Cherry have said the Bute House Agreement should be reviewed or renegotiated, with Ewing branding the #Greens “hard-left extremists” that have “tarnished” his party"
Is Ewing sure that it isn't hard right extremists who are tarnishing his party? What is he even doing in the party?

Really? When #labour are nearing polling parity with the #snp in #scotland? I rather doubt that but keep whistling
Scotland can get independence quite rapidly if only they could convince half the adults that live there to take the plunge - the issue is not south of the border, it is with you lot
Is it reasonable to expect an #indyRef every 10 years in the absence of any convincing evidence most of you want it? I think not....

The departure of Sturgeon casts doubt on the durability of the SNP's electoral hegemony. A new special issue of Political Quarterly reflects on what has changed in Scottish politics and what the future holds.

Well if you actually had a demonstrable 50% of scot voting for pro-indy parties you might have a point.... but you don't so you don't really
In fact (Alex will hate this!) the #snp is not even undeniably the most popular party in #scotland - never mind getting 50% support even with the help of the #greens & #alba
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opinion_polling_for_the_next_United_Kingdom_general_election#Scotland
I’m interested in the despair in this, argued by Mike Small of @BellaCaledonia. I’m probably not an average voter (whatever that is), but in speaking with people, I sense no great desire from anyone to vote for #Labour, and I wonder if, when it comes down to it at a general election, that 50% of people who broadly want independence, will just suck it up and vote #SNP anyway. The biggest gains for Labour might therefore come from #Tories and #LibDems, not the pro-#independence parties. Perhaps the SNP will lose votes because people won’t bother to vote (“they haven’t earned it”), and that will cost them seats, but I don’t think Labour’s messaging appeals much to many people I encounter. https://bellacaledonia.org.uk/2023/11/27/the-banality-of-scottish-politics/

...Whereas the #snp leader may not last as long if their MP numbers plummet and #indyRef2 disappears over the horizon
But #humzaYousaf will almost certainly outlast #sunak - who will be gone in 2024
An audience with a national leader can be indicative of priorities and potential for influence—as can its absence, finds @DrHannahGraham as she analyses Nicola Sturgeon's ministerial diaries.
Humza Yousaf says he has written to Keir Starmer and Rishi Sunak to call for the International Criminal Court to investigate whether war crimes are being committed. Venezuela, South Africa, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Comoros and Djibouti have all passed along referrals to ICC already. In addition, South Africa has been urging the ICC to issue arrest warrants immediately, one for Netanyahu in particular.

Not as uncomfortable as this polling trend is for the #snp

".. the #snp amendment - transparently & cynically designed...to disadvantage Labour in Scotland by grandstanding on #Gaza "
Yeah.... So unfair making #Starmer look crap and out-of-touch with voters /s
Of course #Starmer could try and be less crap and start listening the electorate in #Scotland and elsewhere.....
At least 7 #Labour frontbenchers who have publicly supported the idea of a ceasefire did not vote for the SNP amendment and kept their roles.
Rushanara Ali, shadow business minister, said she would have resigned if it "meant the needle would move in the slightest over forcing a ceasefire"
The same could be said for the #snp amendment - transparently & cynically designed for domestic political purposes to disadvantage Labour in Scotland by grandstanding on #Gaza

Nahost-Debatte in Großbritannien: Meuterei auf dem Labourdampfer
@DavidPenington The full text of the #SNP ammendment, which I will post in full below, included "unequivocally condemn the horrific killings by Hamas and the taking of hostages; reaffirm that there must be an end to the collective punishment of the Palestinian people; call for the urgent release of all hostages" – so it was, absolutely and unequivocally, the motion you asked for.

Something that the WM vote against the SNP amendment on the Israel / Gaza crisis has shown me: where the Tories are already doing their best to destroy lives - and by that I mean of their own country people and those in most need - given an election where Labour wins, they will follow exactly the same policy.
The Red of Labour is merely a different shade of the Blue of Conservatives.

The political war in #scotland being fought in #England over platitudes about a conflict in #palestine in which the UK is not a participant and over which it has no influence
It will not make much odds in Scotland either - the #snp are set to lose many seats to #labour at #2024GE regardless of how this vote goes....but the unctious hypocrisy of their MPs is VERY Scottish
I doubt they’ll do quite this badly but I genuinely think the Tories are heading for a really bad defeat at the next election. After that I doubt they’ll lead another government in my lifetime

I'm tired of #Holyrood pointing at Westminster as the sole British contributor to the #genocide & #apartheid in #Gaza / #Israel
The Scottish government has developed financial strategies, provides support & grants millions in public money, all of which go directly towards arms manufacture in Scotland.
Like #labour , the #snp is happy to use "British jobs" as an excuse to fund #warcrimes . They have the devolved powers to disincentivise arms manufacture in #Scotland
And they don't.
"The First Minister added: “I am beyond angry at the Home Secretary and the UK Government who seem to want to drive every issue into a culture war. Describing those marches as hate marches is disgraceful, unacceptable."
Westminster's gearing up to ban the demos, aren't they. Also, the National Front are allowed to walk by the Cenotaph every year (pic related) on Armistice Day. A truly hateful march is allowed but a peace march isn't?
@MadeyeTheCarnaptious @Hope4All There isn't a chance of this. The #SNP are going into the 2024 general election with a repeat of the same strategy which has failed at the last two Westminster elections, and (deservedly) less popularity. They are no longer a vehicle which can deliver #ScottishIndependence.
Neither of course are #ALBA; but given that, we need to face the fact that there is no democratic route to independence within the next two decades.
@waldoj @pavo Privacy is a pre 80s myth. You should just post your #23andMe #snp Profile, genome and vcf file from #VeritasGenomics and leave it for others to play with on a server somewhere. @KristoferKeane just like it wasn’t entirely surprising, though odd, to profess a belief in independence and social justice, then defect to the Tories when deselection calls. East Kilbride constituency now stuck with a Tory MP until the UK General Election, even though they voted for the #SNP
Not entirely surprising that Ash Regan would go to Alba, but it's a bit odd to stand to lead a party and then defect to another! Edinburgh Eastern constituency now stuck with an Alba MSP until the next Scottish parliamentary election though, even though they voted for the #SNP.

In this new article in The Political Quarterly, I analyse how Nicola Sturgeon spent her time as First Minister of Scotland.
To whom and what did she give her time as FM — which issues and interest groups had access and proximity? Which didn't?
I went through two years of Ministerial diaries, cross-referenced with the Lobbying Register and FOI publications, to find out.
