This friday night, December 3, 2023, if you are in the SF Bay Area, come see a tryptic of my #pajaroiterations original paintings, along with nearly 100 artists in the annual Works/San Jose Members show. https://workssanjose.org/2023/11/21/homecoming-the-2023-works-member-exhibition/ #sanjose #campbell #santaclara #milpitas #cupertino #saratoga #willowglen #sfbayarea #sanfrancisco #california #traditionalart #fediart #mastoart
Hey, all of my fellow NorCal folks in the South Bay (Campbell area), are you free this coming Saturday from 3:30pm to 7pm? Would you like to help me do something fun for the kids in the community?
I need some volunteers to help my organization run popcorn booths, cotton candy stands, and keep lines for kiddie rides organized.
If you can, please reply or fill out my volunteer registration form here (and make sure you mention this post in the comments):
Just finished shopping at the SJMade Holiday Fair! It was amazing to see so many talented local artists and business owners selling incredible products. And of course, getting there on the @vta light rail was super easy. It drops you off right in front of the convention center. No need to worry about parking!
#SanJose will be installing speed cameras on 30-40 high-risk roads.
Cameras are only allowed to capture still photos of the rear of cars and the city has to delete images after 5 days unless they are issuing a violation.
Violations will result in warnings or fines, but no points. Cameras will be permitted until 2032.
Here’s your reminder that driving during the holidays is awful. Let a professional do it for you! Take #PublicTransit and avoid the headache of dealing with other drivers!
An extra bonus is that you don’t have to play the dangerous game of “can I have another drink or not?” before leaving a party.
San Jose to pay six figures after losing public records lawsuit
San Jose is preparing to pay half a million dollars to San José Spotlight and the First Amendment Coalition, two organizations that prevailed in a public records lawsuit over the city...
loved watching eklund steal the puck from McDavid but did not love watching the Sharks twitter account steal the meme I made after it blew up without crediting me 😬 https://www.rawchili.com/3157266/
We’ll have our next meetup in January, and until then we want to encourage everyone to reach out to their elected officials to let them know that #VTA is doing a great job, we’re excited about the future transit changes and improvements, and that we want to see more support from elected for VTA and transportation projects.
Our #TransitMeetup is happening tonight!!
The bigots are organizing and getting elected to school boards in your area, including my local school board, Alum Rock.

San Jose Mayor Mahan thinks that this has no impact on the timeline for Google's investment in San Jose.
"A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with last week's hit-and-run crash in San Jose that left a pregnant woman and her baby dead, police said Monday."

We'll be inside near Three Sisters bar since it's getting cooler now 🥶
Come hang out with other folks who love transit 🚌🚈🚆
The other day while I was walking, I saw from the side of my eye, a bird flying mere inches off the pavement. As it got closer, it flew up and landed on a tree next to me. It was a Cooper’s Hawk and after letting me take a few pics, it decided to take off but again, inches above the pavement.
San Jose, California, Oct 2023
It’s super weird out tonight on my walk. There’s no real car or people noises. No animal noises. Hardly any wind. Occasionally crickets, but not always. A plane flies overhead every so often. I’m like is there going to be an earthquake or is Pennywise showing up or something?
Hey, #SanJose ,
Reminder that next Saturday, Oct 14, starting at 08:06, there's going to be a partial annular eclipse (not a full one, and we'll catch about 75% of it. So a bit more than last time.)
Feel free to set up your pinhole projectors and start telling your QAnon neighbors on NextDoor that the liberals are going to start blocking the sun.
The Mercury News: 80% of Bay Area voters see state of big three downtowns as serious problem, poll finds
“All these perceptions point to one disturbing truth: The Bay Area’s three big urban centers are in crisis. People are still working from home. Businesses are closing. And […] residents are giving up on our downtowns.”
Yeah, not great, although I do like working from home.
The #BostonMarket restaurant at 880 Blossom Hill #SanJose #sfba is uh…mostly abandoned? The menu is mostly gone, they only have a few sides available, and their soda machines are mostly inoperative. The food is terrible, and the chicken is flavorless.
I think this place is going out of business, but the owners are just keeping it barely operating instead of shutting it down all the way.
Quick civic engagement CTA!
For the handful of local #SanJose folks on here - if you love our thrice-annual open street festival Viva Calle (and city parks in general), please make your thoughts known in a public comment on the City Council agenda for Tuesday's meeting. It's item 3.4 (where they discuss what will get cut after city workers successfully negotiated a better contract 🙄): https://sanjose.granicusideas.com/meetings/5074-city-council/agenda_items?page=4

Do you live or work in #SanJose? Do you also care about making San Jose safer and less car-dependent? Then you should come out to the San Jose Transit Happy Hour!
I’m super excited to say that I’m co-hosting this Transit Month event with the wonderful Monica Mallon at San Pedro Square on the 28th! We’ll be discussing how transit can save lives by reducing drunk driving while also getting people out to enjoy happy hour.
Come out to show #PublicTransit some love in the South Bay! We can discuss ways to end car domination over some beers 🍻
Love finding out more about dark energy and explodey stars? (I mean, who doesn't)
Join Jeff Silverman at the Chabot Space & Science center this Friday at 7pm.
Today was Silicon Valley Pride in Santa Clara county, California and to no one’s surprise the religious scolds with signs and loud speakers were menacing passers with wild accusations of sin and hell. All of a sudden these two folks started passionately kissing each other on the streets and the crowd went wild cheering. Later when I passed by the same spot the sad religious scold was gone! I guess #lovewins!

'The Magic of Mr Masking, Costa Rica's King of Tape' is today's despatch from bl.ag online: https://bl.ag/the-magic-of-mr-masking-costa-ricas-king-of-tape/
The feature looks back at the work of Mr Masking (aka Gerardo Picado, RIP) and the typographic vernacular he created in San José.
Thanks to the work of Pupila, a branding and graphic design studio, Mr Masking's legacy lives on in film, print, and photography.

I wonder if the city has even heard of what a few bad apples do to the whole bunch.
San Jose Animal Care and Services is full, and they're calling for help from the Bay Area community to adopt or foster one of their animals.
San Jose ACS no longer has the capacity to take in healthy dogs or cats. As of Tuesday, the animal shelter has more than 900 animals, with 745 of them being kittens.

Drove up to Mount Hamilton yesterday to enjoy the cold and clear weather and take a photo I've wanted to try for years: Half Dome in near-infrared from 200 kilometers away. Could use some more tweaking but I'm pretty happy with it! Some technical details on flickr.
