We put in a heat pump this summer and for the first time had air conditioning that kept the house at ~ 76-78 °F all summer. Now the outside temps have dropped and the house is ~68-65 °F. Fish’s behavior has totally changed and he’s back to curling up on and under blankets for nap time. #seasons #catsofmastodon

Lavender bushes and a gay waterfall,
Springtime is happy for one and for all.
Under the sunshine in the sweet grass,
Grow pretty flowers, delicate as glass.
And as I sit dreaming by the clear pool,
The birds sing proud as a springtime rule.
As happy days fly quickly past,
Spring is coming to its end, all too fast.

This is the final month we will be drawing our inspiration from the third element - fire.
The equinox is at 06:50 UTC on Thursday morning. This marks the half way point between summer and winter when the sun is over the equator and the day length is changing at its maximum rate.
Equinox also marks the start of astronomical autumn in the north and spring in the southern hemisphere.
Happy equinox everyone :)
Just three more days of official summer left (the autumnal equinox occurs this weekend on Saturday).
I know some areas of the UK have enjoyed a fairly decent summer, but in North East England, where I live, it seems to have been cooler than recent years and much more unsettled.
The first tints of autumn are already evident in our local countryside.

It seems the only thing the Conservative Government in Ontario seems to be able to plan ahead is making sure their supporters and friends profit from them being in power. Any planning for the people of the province is always haphazard and too little too late. #ClimateChange, #Seasons, #COVIDBoosters, #LTC #Schools #Masking - all topics that this government ignore and their response is “Who knew that <fill in the blank> would be an issue.

Spring and Summer
These acrylics complete my seasons set. These were created using a gelli plate to build layers, with manual additions using scrunched-up tinfoil and an old bank card.
I'm an absolute beginner when it comes to painting (so please be gentle!) but I'm enjoying the learning and experimentation process.

The weather is "summer". But it's almost equinox now. The sun rises much later and sets much earlier than in June or July. And it doesn't rise up as high into the sky at midday. So the angles are different.
We have summer things and summer habits for hot weather. A few days ago I set up the table under a tree and an umbrella for lunch, just as I would in summer. But the shade from the tree was wrong. I had to put the umbrella in different place so the shade would fall on the people eating.
Now that I've noticed it, I see it all the time. In the morning, the sun is much lower than it should be in "summer". In the evening, it sets in an "autumny" way, but it's hot like a summer evening.
The plants that need a many hours of sunshine are starting to shut down, because there's only a bit more than 12 hours of daylight left, even if those hours are very bright and hot.
I guess this must be more obvious closer to the poles? Anyone else feeling this way?
(I'm at 48° N. We have about 16 hours day and 8 hours night at summer solstice, and 8 hours day and 16 hours night at winter solstice here.)
Instead of complaining about the mood on #mastodon I will do my best to help lift the mood today.

Perhaps it’s a coincidence that’s it’s Labor Day, the symbolic start of Fall. But while sitting on the porch this morning, my wife and I noticed that the leaves on these trees across the street had started to turn.
These trees are the first to turn every year. And we both swear they hadn’t turned yesterday.
Regardless, the starting gun for Autumn has taken its first shots in our neck of the woods.
After spring, summer is my favorite season, just because after the longest day and the start of summer, the days shorten again. But it is often warm, people go outside, to the beach and forest, to summer holidays, so we are not thinking about that yet. Some of them work with summer in mind.
For the avoidance of doubt, in the Northern Hemisphere, today is not the last day of summer 2023 and autumn does not arrive tomorrow. The first day of September is the start of 'meteorological autumn', which is just an invented term and convenient way to mark the change of seasons as one month ends and another begins. In reality, autumn arrives at the equinox, which is another three weeks away on 23 Sep 2023 at 07:50am.

It's 55 degrees here this morning. The feeling is, it's definitely turning toward Autumn. I feel a little like summer was a bummer, to hot, no monsoons, but then I do love the Fall. The Rocky Mountains are set ablaze with color. We actually have a trip planned in a few weeks to take in the color. Autumn is my favorite season.
Nature gives us time, from one season to the next, to get used to the transition. She has so much to show, and we have so much to learn from her, that there's no need to rush.

I have some sad news to share today for anyone who visits the Ashridge Estate and knows it well.
One of the iconic trees was damaged by a winter storm and, following a safety assessment due to its proximity to a main path and subsequent attempts to save it, it has sadly had to be removed.
The tree arching over the path will no longer be in this wonderful view...
Here are a few images of the tree for the memories ❤️🌳
Just Like That - to me is how seasons change if you stop paying attention. One day, leaves on the trees, next day, gone. I noticed this tree at Lake Superior State Park in Bethel, NY. Half its leaves were gone. The others waiting to blow away in the wind.
It's a winter image, I know, but it's a favorite of mine. I think because it speaks silence so well, that silence that you experience when it's snowing, a lovely silent silence. You can hear the snowflakes as they hit the ground. I am glad it's Spring, but just spoke to me. Sometimes, I think it's what we need...
The red and gold foliage of the brilliant #Maple #trees in Guelph Ontario Canada and the carpet of fallen leaves adds to the stunning #fall display. Walking on a path of crisp fallen Maple leaves and reveling in the beauty of Autumn foliage is both #peaceful and exhilarating!

"Exposure to daylight predicts when you'll fall asleep"
"During the winter, students went to bed an average of 35 minutes later and woke up an average of 27 minutes later than during the summer."
As silly as it sounds I hope these scientists accounted for daylight savings time... because basically it sounds like our bodies just split the difference of an arbitrary hour change.
