#serverless the framework? It's sort of complex. I use things like http://arc.codes or Vercel or Netlify.

I need some serverless experience before Q2 so I'm slowly converting my postgres-backed #elixir side project to an AWS #serverless solution (api gateway with ~60 #rustlang lambda functions backed by DynamoDB).
This single table design pattern is new to me but so far, I don't hate overloaded indexes.
Why Rust for serverless/cloud native apps? Choose 9/9:
- Cost efficiency
- Low latency
- Memory efficiency
- Memory safety
- Environmental sustainability
- Fewer runtime errors
- Easy deployments
- Developer happiness
- Customer happiness
What is with the pricing models of most #CaaS solutions? I can run a #serverless site with #FaaS providing some basic DB CRUD for several thousand monthly users for almost pennies. But hooking it up to a glorified set of data entry forms to write a monthly blog post is $89! That's a lot for a small business or hobby blogger.

I was recently in a #serverless workshop where in the demo the idea was to use the logs to trigger transactional emails.. like a shopper buys a thing on a website, and a log is generated that triggers sending an email to the customer.
Is this how people do things now?!?!
#Dotnet developers, you can now build AWS SAM projects using containers. If your environment is not setup, no problem, just add '--use-container' and SAM will download the proper container to build the #serverless project. Time to grab SAM 1.77.0. Currently, we support the #DotNet 5 and 6 runtime with 7 on the way.

OK, so in March of 2023 what's everyone's goto for #Cloudflare #Worker state? I know the immediate answers will be "it depends", so let's assume I just need r/w access to serialized Javascript objects (JSON data); what's the first thing you reach for when prototyping a new Worker?
When I first looked at Cloudflare #Workers it seemed like Workers KV was the thing, but now there's Durable Objects and D1 (sqlite). What's a good reference for the pros/cons of each?

dear #aws #serverless folk:
all the "do a thing with #lambda" tutorials and docs i'm finding assume you're setting up an #apiGateway in front of your function. if i'm using lambda to push an external event into another external api (so aws doesn't own the authentication), is there a reason to not just use the raw function url and skip the gateway? it seems very faffy and i'm not sure i need what it buys me.

reminded again today how crucial (yet rare) local dev is for cloud devs.
local dev been a core feature of Architect, and thus Enhance, for years now. its critical for keeping feedback loop tight and dev velocity fast.
its not impossible (as some say) but it does require being mindful about which framework you choose.

GraphQL: moving away from Apollo
I have used Apollo GraphQL Server for a long time. However I am trying to move to serverless apps & in doing so need to also move away from Apollo's implementation.
It would be a great help if people suggest what packages they are using for vanilla graphql plus express or if they are using it in lambda.
Pointing to any tutorials or links would be nice. 🙂
Would appreciate boosts.

My friend's an expert at shopping at Bulk Barn, a Canadian bulk food store. I asked her, "I guess it's a good deal when you want to get a lot of something?"
"Not at all," she said. Turns out you save money when you only need a tiny amount of something.
I think about this whenever I think about #serverless architecture, like #AWS Lambda. The pricing makes sense if you only need a tiny bit of server time. Once you have enough work to keep a regular server busy, you should use a regular server.

The cloud requires hardware, physical datacenter, power, cables, etc, etc etc. the cloud is an infrastructure investment. CAPEX is the funds used to buy/maintain physical assets.
AWS has always had a big lead on the infra side and that gap continues to widen. By a lot.
The adage is "your margin is my opportunity" and looking at CAPEX alone: AWS has the initiative wrt to economies of scale.

I just want to run a #SlimPHP site in a #serverless instance. Is that possible? #Vercel is having problems (their non-official runtime has an out of date #sqlite build)... fly.io seems promising. What else is out there?
I want to rewrite a personal part-built project, moving away from #serverless (AWS Lambda) to #containers.
I want to pivot to making this available on GitHub and easily self-hostable.
I've used ECS, Docker Compose (eek) in the past, #Kubernetes. Someone suggested #Nomad, looks interesting.
What are your go-tos for this? In particular if I want to keep the orchestration relatively light and easy for somenone else to spin up on their own hardware or cloud host.
