Just some #hiking in the #alps .
Yes, we were also surprised by the amount of #snow that was still around. But luckily it wasn't much of a problem. Later on the clouds got thicker. So the light was really miserably for photos - but it was nicely cool to walk!
In the end: a couple of challenging passages. Made it to the highest peak in the region, enjoyed some 6h or 7h trip, lot's of memories

Nome #snow: still sorting thru social media but based on pix it looks like maybe two inches (5cm) accumulation overnight. That would be the third highest calendar day June snowfall on record (highest remains 4 inches June 5, 1924). Of course, NWS doesn't do snow anymore in Nome, so there's no "official" amount, and like the June 2021 multi-day snow this will soon be lost down the memory hole. 😡

More late season #snow in #Alaska: Wednesday May 31 in the upper Tanana valley. Snow reported at Tok and Northway are not quite the latest of record (at least June 3, 1974) but this is close. Alaska Highway Milepost 1285 (1900 ft, 580 meters MSL) just east of Midway Lake (Upper Tanana Dene county) was snowing hard at 10am AKDT, with all the accumulation since 8am. A feature of my old apartment was the #BaitTree - right behind my desk was a window that had a #persimmon tree so close that you could pick persimmons from inside the apartment. The lure of yummy yummy persimmons was always tempting enough to ignore the photographer who was close enough that minimum focus distance became a problem. In early March we had one heavy downfall of #snow here on #gowerpeninsula , it was enough to demolish my fruit cage and I was taken by surprise by this. So I rebuilt a sturdier fruit cage from 2x2 uprights and 1x2 horizontals: this is what it looks like. Inside I grow Redcurrants, Blackcurrants, Blueberries and Gooseberries. This season a host of Caterpillars has stripped the Gooseberry bush, and has already begun munching through the Redcurrants .... HELP, please help, send advice!

Generally Australia does not experience wide spread #snow falls during #winter but we do have what’s knows as our #HighCountry in the State of Victoria.
We do have #snowfields, good skiing in general. Most of Victoria's alpine resorts lie to the north-east of Melbourne. Anywhere from say 2 to 4.5 hrs drive from our capital city Melbs.
These are a few of Victoria’s snowfields: #LakeMountain, #MtBawBaw, #MtBuller and #MtStirling, #MtHotham and #FallsCreek.

#newsouthwales has awesome snowfields. The largest ski resort in the #SouthernHemisphere is #Perisher. It has 47 lifts, plenty of runs, five terrain parks and around 100km of cross country trails. In #Thredbo you can ski Australia’s longest runs.
The Australian State of a #Tasmania, the island located to the south of Victoria, experiences flurries and snow falls throughout winter too. It’s closer to the #SouthPole. #Tassie is a gorgeous part of our country. 👏👍

Late-day light illuminates snow covered ridges and thin forest along the summit of the Panamint Range, Death Valley National Park.
The reputation of Death Valley National Park is mostly tied to heat — the desert, the dunes, the rare rainfall. I once asked German relatives why they choose to visit in the middle of summer when few of us would choose to go there. The answer, more or less, was that Death Valley is famous for being the hottest place on earth, and that is what they wanted to experience. People who “know” the park from that perspective are often shocked to find that snow is common here in the mountains.

For those of you in the area, still a lot of snow about 2.5 miles up Elks Creek trail in the Tillamook Forest.
Here’s another photo from my recent team meetup in Germany, where we got to see these incredible mountains that span the border of Germany and Austria. We were up pretty high too, around 1500m at Bergstation Herzogstandbahn, which made for a wonderful view.
The weather wasn’t exactly on our side. Those ominous black clouds overhead made it feel like it could start raining or snowing at any moment.

We had trudged up and down rugged hills, wearing snow shoes, until we finally came to a stop, feeling sore and utterly exhausted. The sun blazed down on us as we stood at 1500m on a crisp, clear day. Ahead of us loomed another hill, descending a valley and then ascending at a steep incline. At the bottom, we spotted two skiers preparing to travel further down the slopes.
A brief shaft of sunlight cuts through the snow and cloud to light up Bynack More this evening.
