@dave Someone was also telling mea about Stationeers, which lets you script pretty much everything in the game.

My #ksp quest is to use it specifically to teach basic-to-intermediate #orbitalmechanics to non-#space #programming people who are tasked with writing code to handle this type of data.

(As a #softwareengineer myself, the arrogance of "i get paid to think logically" and laziness of "just tell me what to write" coders is appalling. You need to understand the problem domain!)

📌 A new #introduction for a new Fediverse instance.

I am Noah, a 35-year-old software engineer from the Pacific Northwest United States. I’m also a #nudist and (online) #exhibitionist, so on my page you’ll find a mixture of nudes, lewds, and geeky stuff that I’m into. I also have a lot of other random interests that are miles wide and inches deep.

My style of #nudism is “sex positive” - I had originally set out since my teens to get a nude picture of me doing basically everything a gay boy could get up to on his own, ranging from photos of mundane everyday activities done while naked, all the way up to the occasional amateur porn content. My ideal ratio of nude content is typically 90% “normal nudes” with some hotter stuff now and again thrown in. Sex is only a small part of one’s life so it’s also a small part of my own. My “home base” for my nude presence online is my photoblog, https://introvertnudist.com - all of my nude content goes there first, and then some of it makes its way to Twitter or Mastodon.

On the nerdy side of things, I’m a self-taught #SoftwareEngineer and I have a TON of personal side projects that I work on. I program my own websites and blogs from scratch. Some of my biggest projects include a nudist social networking site I built and launched in August 2022, https://nonshy.com, I am working on my own videogame in recent years, https://SketchyMaze.com, and one of my oldest projects dating way back to 2003 (when I was still in high school!) is https://RiveScript.com, a scripting language I created for programming chatbots with. This was years before Siri, and was inspired by AOL Instant Messenger bots such as #SmarterChild from the early 2000’s. I had ported RiveScript to several different programming languages (as a way to learn the ropes with a new language), from its original #Perl version into #Python, #Java, #JavaScript and #Go.

Other things I’m interested in include all things #science (astrophysics especially), #spirituality and #metaphysics, the #occult and #magick, the #outdoors and #camping, #videogames (especially Nintendo’s main properties - Zelda’s and Pokémon’s and such), and probably a whole bunch of other things that I’m lazy to enumerate right now. 😅

For the last 50 or so years, #SoftwareEngineering has been largely about how to write fewer #LinesOfCode, to minimize the amount of #code to #maintain, and to minimize the number of #bugs.

Now with #Copilot and #ChatGPT, people seem to have forgotten this, and are trying to increase the number of lines of code a #SoftwareEngineer produces per day.

Can you see where this leads to? What is the situation a company making use of these #technologies will find itself in next?

I'm just saying software engineer #unemployment isn't going to be it.

I'm not saying these technologies and #tools aren't useful; clearly they are. I have used them a lot for different purposes. They can help in #teaching software engineering, and any other topic, for example, if it doesn't matter that the material is a few years old.

We can finally have decent #chatbot #ProgressiveUserInterfaces which understand what the user wants, and understand the system they interface to.

These technologies will also evolve fast and ultimately they will change everything.

It's just that the first ideas people got of "fewer software engineers are now needed" and "now junior engineers can do everything" are grossly unrealistic. I don't mind people testing that though, feel free to make bets.
