🌟 #TACON2023 #Testautomatisierung #Softwaretesting #Innovation #Networking
The key to effective refactoring? Test suites. Your tests should stay green before and after you refactor. This ensures you're not altering behavior, just improving structure. #SoftwareTesting #CodeQuality
As more and more teams adopt exploratory testing to test software and hardware, then the question arises: How can we measure its success? It's a hard and broad topic but I took a bit to try to uncover it. Hope it helps or that at least triggers some thoughts and/or discussions in your team. In the end, we learn by exploring, iterating, like in exploratory testing! :)

Je grösser ein Projekt wird, desto mehr Testfälle gibt es, und desto länger dauert meist auch die Ausführung. Instabile Tests und abbrechende Builds werden dann zu einem großen Ärgernis, das für Frustration sorgt. 😔

#Automation for #SoftwareTesting sounds fun. "Let's make the app do stuff". For #GUI, it's cool to watch. BUT, there's less-fun work, too. The diagrams, the approvals, the politics. Just be prepared.
That first sentence from Dorothy Graham speaks volumes.

I just also thought, like I have written a list of accounts from around the software testing community on Bluesky - why did I not do this also for the Fediverse and Mastodon?
Both have the right to be mentioned and thought. Both are different, and a few folks I can find here, others on the other network...
So stay tuned in the next weeks.
A little #Friday Fisics, I mean #Physics, plus #automation and #SoftwareTesting for y'all. 🤘
FINALLY. I finally came up with an idea for #AutomationGuild. That was far harder than it needed to be.

I was invited to give a talk about my transition from academia (Biology/Neuroscience) to industry (Software testing/Cyber Security).
So I'm collecting ideas: What would you like to hear about in such a talk?
Can we increase our flexibility, test coverage & efficiency? Is it possible to reduce our verification lead time by 50%?
This #InfoQ article explores 2 important “pillars” of a testing strategy: #ShiftingLeft and using state-of-the-art #AI / #ML techniques to support verification activities: https://bit.ly/3QVHMB0
🐞 Already 2 bugs found this morning. Great success! Still hoping to progress a couple more user stories today, which means MORE possible bug reports!
In other news: I've used Atom as my text editor of choice for years but now I'm thinking about changing teams.
Any suggestions from other fellow IT professionals / #developers / #etc ?
This Thursday, I'll be speaking at

Are you looking to optimize your code changes? A well-planned #TestingStrategy is the answer!
Find out how shifting the concept of "unit" can reduce the time needed for changes, leading to faster delivery, reduced MTTR, and improved developer experience.
#InfoQ article by Jorge Fernández Rodríguez: https://bit.ly/3J9XvaS
I think that "write a test for every bug" is a foolish advice.
Write #tests for business logic only. Everything else is an implementation detail.

Shifting left can be used to improve test design and lead to faster, more effective #CI / #CD pipelines. By focusing on building effective and efficient tests, CI/CD runs can quickly return feedback.

Post-commit #SoftwareTesting was a mistake. If you can’t test your working copy, you’re not doing #TDD
If it looks like a bug,
hops like a bug,
and buzzes like a bug,
then it's probably a…
feature.

Re: Moving #Angular CLI to #Jest and Web Test Runner:
I'm having mixed feeling about this. Deprecating Karma makes sense. Its architecture is 10+ yrs old. But since Facebook handed Jest over to the community, Jest is seriously under-maintained. It has become the proverbial project some random person in Nebraska is thanklessly maintaining.
If the Angular team is serious about this switch, Google should pay someone contributing to Jest.

Overcomplicating your test structure can lead to slow, brittle tests. A focus on test speed as the primary labeling mechanism maximizes your test investment.

Referred to a post on my own digital garden for advice tonight, and it worked!
our awesome packager of #GIMP for #Windows, @jernej__s, has been experimenting with an AArch64 (ARM 64-bit) version of GIMP for Windows. We already have a very beta installer for people to test! 🥳
Anyone interested in regularly QA-test GIMP on this platform? If so, subscribe according to procedure described in: https://gimp.org/news/2023/02/27/gimp-2-10-34-released/#improved-release-procedure-and-call-for-testers
Developers should consider using #FakeObjects instead of #MockObjects!
Fake objects offer similar isolation benefits while driving high confidence, clear documentation & loose coupling between implementation and test code.
#InfoQ article by Tyson Gern: http://bit.ly/3mfL9Wc
The biggest difference between #softwareEngineering and #softwareTesting has been the corporate attitude toward budgeting; as a #developer you can get any hardware and servers you need. As a tester; "can you share an env with the rest of the #QA #engineers?" #testing
Like, I get it, I'm trying to break the app, fuck me right? But you want it to be *me* that breaks the app right!?

How is it that I’ve been doing #SoftwareDevelopment for almost thirty years and have never run into the acronym SUT (system under test) or seen it used as a variable name in tests until today?
Though I’m not a fan of TLAs (three-letter acronyms) as variable names.

Really like the idea of the “whole team" approach by Janet Gregory and @lisacrispin.
This includes all "people who are responsible for understanding what to build, building it, and delivering the final product to the customer." And from my understanding really ALL people.
http://leanpub.com/agiletesting-condensed is what the name promises and worth reading.
"I can’t believe I’m saying this, but in some cases, I would rather prefer untested code than redundant unit tests. Oof, as I said that a little part of my soul just shattered. But it’s true." #SoftwareTesting https://betterprogramming.pub/addicted-to-unit-tests-heres-an-idea-to-fix-it-8735ba3c53cb

I am a software engineer, currently juggling (and failing) to balance time between teaching #softwareArchitecture and #softwareTesting to 3-4th year undergraduate students, researching on #automatedTesting and #distributedSystems on the #BEAM (#Erlang, #Elixir), exploring #SocialMedia media from a #feminist and #multidisciplinary perspective, and advocating for #Floss in the context of scientific research and #OpenScience.
Oh, and the so-called personal life, of course!! 😅
As #developers, our job is to deliver working software. With the shift to CI/CD and the move to the #cloud, the need to have the right feedback at the right time only increases. In this talk @maritvandijk will highlight some of the many ways that testing can help you to develop better software faster.

I spent the last three days troubleshooting an issue that turned out to be a network problem masquerading as a software problem. Those are some of the hardest problems to fix. The testers just know that “it doesn’t work”, and the devs can’t reproduce the issue. #softwaretesting
New post from my blog:
A philosophy of frontend testing: testing interactions with the outside world
A “testing mindset” of inquiry applies when you are a principal tester or even a senior advisor in testing. Asking open questions and approaching a challenge with exploration proves better than command and control. People are people – be mindful of where they are.
