Can there be knowledge without investigation?

Can a thing be known at first on sight,
on taste or touch or feel, can you
smell a thing or, oddly, know it
only as an action at a spooky distance

Is it likely a thing has ever
been discovered and declared,
post-haste, 'this, then, is that'

With imagination, a consideration
of a thing is built upon the sense
of research best conducted, an exploration
of the nature before the naming

How much did the heavy rains help California's water crisis? @nasa NASA's GRACE-FO satellite has the answer.

The greatest net gain of water in nearly 22 years. Think of the state’s Central Valley region as a giant swimming pool: GRACE-FO measures all the water contained in the lakes, rivers, soil, snowpack, and underground aquifers. Winter storms raised levels about 20 inches.

The big question: What is going on in the global ocean of Enceladus, hidden just beneath the ice? Could those waters support life?
It will take a dedicated mission to Enceladus to get meaningful answers.

This graphic illustrates how scientists on NASA's Cassini mission think water interacts with rock at the bottom of the ocean of Saturn's icy moon Enceladus, producing hydrogen gas (H2). The graphic shows water from the ocean circulating through the seafloor, where it is heated and interacts chemically with the rock. This warm water, laden with minerals and dissolved gases (including hydrogen and possibly methane) then pours into the ocean creating chimney-like vents.

Geysers on Saturn's moon Enceladus create a ring of water ice that circles all the way around the planet! New maps from #JWST show the process in stunning detail.

NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope’s exquisite sensitivity and highly specialized instruments are revealing details into how one of Saturn’s moon’s feeds a water supply to the entire system of the ringed planet. Enceladus, a prime candidate in the search for life elsewhere in our solar system, is a small moon about four percent the size of Earth. New images from Webb’s NIRSpec (Near-Infrared Spectrograph) have revealed a water vapor plume jetting from the southern pole of Enceladus, extending out more than 20 times the size of the moon itself.

The re-entry of the recent SpaceX/Axiom flight to the ISS was visible over Arkansas on Tuesday evening, only I'm just finding out about it today, 2 days later.

I don't keep up with crewed missions that much anymore, so this sort of thing is something that I would previously have found out about in advance from my former network on Twitter but haven't replaced here.

Any active accounts in this area on the fediverse?
