I just found out how to solve the problem with setting up the embedded apache derby in spring boot version 3.x.

Additionally to the dependency for

org.apache.derby:derby

you also have to add the dependency

org.apache.derby:derbytools .

It seems the embedded driver was moved betweed derby 10.16.1.1 and 10.14.2.0.

But the one thing they cannot influence is the jakarta/javax chaos. They did all they could do, but in case you use libraries which are not managed by Spring Boot the migration is hard or impossible.

That's sad as it spoils the good overall impression.

Does anyone have suggestions for people/hashtags to follow (or post questions to) for news / discussions of #SoftwareArchitecture, #SoftwareDevelopment, #Java, #SpringBoot? What development tags are other people following that aren't super spammy? Is it worth creating another account on a more topical instance to dedicate to that? I know I can follow people from any server, but hashtags have different content on different servers.

Update: wrote a quick #Kotlin #SpringBoot app to fetch the publicly available data on Mastodon’s profile directory API. With that I was able to evaluate the biggest accounts on here. From those who opted in for being in the directory, that is.
