I've made some progress. I decided to try to enhance the VEI upscales from the Bluray, and it seems to work fairly well. Here's a scene from the pilot. You have to be on a PC screen to see the difference I think, and it's made with screencast on an RDP session, so there are some additional issues ... 😋

I'm curious now how well the ML model used in Topaz Video AI stands up to the upscale job Visual Entertainment Inc did for Stargate SG-1 for the Bluray boxset.
I still have my complete DVD boxset as well, so I've decided to run the Iris V2 model of TVAI on a couple of episodes and compare. The VEI upscale is pretty blurry, and in some places really bad. It can't hurt to try!

So, I'm re-encoding my Stargate SG-1 episodes in a bit better quality. The tracks on the Blurays are not always in the same order as the episodes, but I'm finding that I only need to watch a few seconds of the encoded video file to know which episode title it is.
I fear I've watched too much Stargate 😁
372 WS2812B 1x1mm RGB LEDs.
Obviously I cannot make the symbols spin, so some creative licence. I can make the rings of 117 LEDs "spin", and light up the symbols, and even do a slight "lock" on the chevrons. But won't know for sure what looks right until I get these.
I also don't really know then current demand for actual use, as not all LEDs full white, obviously. Hopefully within a typical USB charger lead.
The "fun" bit so far is the C code to make LED rings in #KiCad pcb files.

You'd think they'd encourage team members to be positive at this point in #Stargate: SG-1, with all of the "near death but not quite" experiences the team's had. Three seasons in, Shepard's still the soldier trying to flirt with every woman he encounters instead of being a charismatic leader
Teyla's still not much more than the slightly interesting alien woman who does martial arts, Ronon is still the slightly interesting alien man who does martial arts, while both should have a rich culture and strong motivations to fight the enemy, they're still just team members #3 and #4. They're like two failed attempts at recreating Teal'c.
These authors know how to write deep and interesting characters, they've done it for ten seasons of SG-1, why are Atlantis' characters just as flat as the ocean surrounding the city?
Fuck, these authors pulled it off to replace like half the main cast between seasons 8 and 9 of #Stargate SG-1, and it worked perfectly. I wish they'd have brought the tiniest hint of that writing talent over to Atlantis :bunsad:

What the fuck is it with #Stargate execs and killing off doctors, just to "shake things up"?
This episode does not fit into the rest of the show at all, it literally breaks the shows usual flow by everyone having the first day off since the expedition's start.
There's no higher meaning behind Beckett's death, it didn't fit into the story (neither the overarching one, nor the episode's plot), had literally no effect on it. It happened just to make the show "more interesting", and I hate it.

Wohoo, my replacement Firefly Blurays arrived. The first set i ordered had a small defect in disc 2, making one of the episodes unreadable in one region. This one seems fine. No read errors.
Good thing I've started to check the discs in the boxsets. I've had a lot of issues with the big 41 disc Stargate boxset produces by VEI. The disc production is of mediocre quality, which is disappointing considering the steep price.

Been rewatching #Stargate due to it being decent comfort TV and what a weird time capsule of Clinton/Bush neoliberalism it is. The characters are amazing but then they kind of just wind their way through a series of nested sci-fi stock plots. It’s amazing and there’s nothing like it.

Fun fact: the original actress who played Dr Weir in season 7 of #Stargate: SG-1 was fired and replaced in season 8 and Atlantis because she went to #BurningMan while she was supposed to work on the show but told the producers she needs to take leave for an urgent family matter. The producers weren’t very happy when they inevitably found out.
Another one that is great and not #StarTrek is #Babylon5. It's not really episodic though but it's super interesting
