Forbidden Evil

A historical train ride can be taken by anyone several times a month along the Ruhr River in the summer.
In the past, a steam locomotive was hauled once a month. The rest of the month a rail bus was used.
The trip went from the railroad museum in Bochum station in Hagen and back.
On the way, the train also passes a tunnel once.

On a bit of a roll today sketching heritage rolling stock in Sydney. Put on my trainspotting hat (no anorak, though 😉 ), made myself a schedule, and managed five sketches in three hours at the Transport Heritage Expo at Central Station this morning. In order:
1st sketch of the day (done standing, for that special wobbly touch): 1920s wooden-bodied rail-motor carriage (ink in Hahnemühle Nostalgie A6);
2nd & 3rd sketches: Steam locomotive 3526 and diesel locomotive 4001 in the royal blue livery it was given in 1954 when it carried Queen Elizabeth II (ink and watercolour in Hahnemühle Watercolour sketchbook A5); 4th sketch: 4th sketch: Preparatory ink sketch of steam locomotive 3801 – a sleek American design from 1943 (ink in Hahnemühle Nostalgie A6); 5th sketch: Steam locomotive 3801 – a sleek American design from 1943 (ink and watercolour in Hahnemühle Watercolour sketchbook A5).

The front of Northern Pacific Railway #1213, a class Y-3, 2-8-0 consolidation built at the Schenectady Works in 1901. There are 8 people pictured with the locomotive.

The engineer of #1213, presumedly, is up on the running board and leaning against the boiler. In front of him is seated a man wearing a protective outer garment. To his left, is sitting a boy with a cap. He's in front of the smoke box door just above the front coupler. His feet are resting on what appears to be a jacket. To his left side is a man, maybe his father, he has a beat-up hat on his head and his pants are held up by braces. Next is a man without a hat sitting up on the fireman-side running board, in his lap are heavy gloves.

On the footboards are three standing men. The two on the left are a stout man with a vest and pocket watch and a taller man with his arms crossed. On the other side is a man wearing a long, dark coat and a rounded hat with a wide brim turned up.

Coos Bay No 104 Front View

Coos Bay Historical Railroad No. 104 is an old steam locomotive located in Coos Bay Oregon.
In areas where the terrain was level it was not uncommon for this iron horse to pull 100 cars loaded with logs at one time.
This beauty was retired in 1957 and has been cared for by a number different groups since. Union Pacific 4466

he Union Pacific 4466 began it's life in October 1920 to perform switching duty and transfer runs. She started out her career in Cheyenne Wyoming until she was transferred to Grand Island Nebraska working there until 1973.

Went up the mountains to ride the Georgetown Loop Train yesterday with a 120 something year old steam engine pulling it. Photo is of it coming down the mountain. The train is moving from right to left with the engine running backwards coming down the mountain. Switching limitation at the upped end made it run this way.

From Sept 2021, Union Pacific's #X4014 #BigBoy steam engine coming into Greeley Colorado as part of a tour of middle America.
I followed it across part of Colorado over two days. Judge me as you will, I was not alone.
I believe this is the largest steam engine in the US. Was built in the 1940’s to haul loads over the rockies more efficiently.
