The Swiss #glaciers have lost 10% of their volume in just 2 years, due to unusually hot summers and winters with very low snow volume.
The rate at which small glaciers are melting is alarming. Even with global warming limited to 1.5oC, #Switzerland 's glacier volume is expected to be only a third of what it currently is. This highlights the severity of the #ClimateCrisis

Glaciers across the entire country were affected, with those in southern and eastern Switzerland melting almost as much this year as in the record year 2022.

Some impressions of my hike today. From Niederurnen with the cable car to Morgenholz. Then ascending to the summit of Brüggler. After that climbing over the ridge to Chöpfenberg and descending to Innerthal. A great silent day with stunning views. Nobody there between Brüggler and Chöpfenberg,
And the plus point of traveling with public transport: no need to return to your car.

Climate in the Courts
A group of more than 2,000 older women has taken the Swiss government to the European Court of Human Rights over its climate-change policy. They say that, because #heatwaves disproportionately affect older #women , #Switzerland ’s 🇨🇭 inaction on climate change is violating their right to life and health.
Decision is expected by early 2024.
