Naughty Dog, the renowned game development studio behind popular titles like "Uncharted" and "The Last of Us," is reportedly set to lay off dozens of contracted workers. The majority of affected employees were in quality assurance (QA) testing, but members of the art and production teams were also impacted. It's estimated that around 25 developers will be affected, while no full-time Naughty Dog employees will be impacted. The layoffs come despite Naughty Dog's recent remastered releases of games like "Uncharted 4" and "The Last of Us Part I" for various platforms. Additionally, a multiplayer game based on "The Last of Us" appears to be on hold.

More gamedev layoffs with Kotaku reporting that contract developers at Naughty Dog, one of Sony's 1st party studios, aren't immune to layoffs themselves.
"Layoffs were communicated internally at the Santa Monica, California-based studio last week, according to two sources familiar with the situation. Departments ranging from art to production were impacted, but the majority of those laid off worked in quality assurance testing. The sources said at least 25 developers were part of the downsizing. Full-time staff do not appear to have been part of the cuts. Naughty Dog’s headcount was over 400 as of July. "

And if I can't get my wish on that (and let's be real, this was also the year of the last season of #Succession, which was also very good, so I suspect the number of #Emmys that are up for grabs are limited), I at LEAST want the third episode of #TheLastOfUs to get every single Emmy that IT is nominated for. Because distilling the show's core themes down to its basics by focusing on a different relationship was so genius, and the realization of that relationship was so gorgeously done. /2
2023 was the year I started watching "television" again, and I liked an AWFUL lot of what I saw. But I want ALL the #Emmys to go to #TheLastOfUs. On the surface it felt like Not My Thing (I dislike both action and horror in my teevee), and I only watched it at all because it was filmed here. But it instead turned out to be the story of a developing non-romantic relationship within the most fully realized post-apocalyptic universe I've seen on screen (and neither that scary nor that action-y). /1

The now abandoned concrete snow shed in the former town of Wellington, WA. This snow shed was built after the deadliest avalanche in US History to protect the track from future disasters. I only recently started watching #TheLastOfUs and just now finished episode 3. That was a heart-wrencher. Even though it became quite predictable it was so well written and acted that it just didn't matter. Well done.
Trying #TheLastOfUs game after watching the series (which I love), and playing #HorizonForbiddenWest and the game just isn't doing it for me.
Perhaps it is the gloomy scenery, and the first hour or so feels quite cinematic (i.e. not much interaction / control).
