Mashup THE LITTLE MERMAID and the movie TENET and instead of a depressing story of a mermaid turned tradwife, you get a cautionary tale delivered via an ARABIAN NIGHTS -like framing device of Ariel, now returned to mermaid form and reunited with Papa Triton, recounting her adventurous Rumspringa and the hearts she broke before returning to he truer self.
(not the thing described, but that was what the muse zapped me with when I was writing these ALT TEXT descriptions)

The Little Mermaid was the first real success for the management that took over a few years prior and showcased a newly confident #animation department.
Was the film as impactful for you as it was for Disney?
Baby J was a fierce fighter. Known all across the land. The baddest white belt on the block. The coolest kid in the county. I just knew I was going to grow up to be a rich woman 😝💜 I’d obsessively watch #TheLittleMermaid and pray that I could trade my voice for a boyfriend and long hair. When I was 5 that’s what I thought being a woman meant hehe I used to pray for rings and ankle bracelets 😎🙃 #Mastodon #Gay #Queer #Black #Mexican #90s #Bornin1987 #alttxt #alttext
This kid has a special love for the sea and everything in it, but especially octopus and squid. Together with a great fascination for monsters (the favourite is of course the Kraken) I had my suspicions.
And, the favourite character is:
They thought the movie had quite the sad ending...
Wife and I just finished watching the "woke" version of #TheLittleMermaid (she's a huge Disney classics fan). I think I actually enjoyed this version a bit more than the original. Melissa McCarthy killed it as Ursula!
Top tier quote at the end, from Triton: "You should not have had to give up your voice to be heard."
Just watched the new version of #thelittlemermaid and I have to say it was … boring? Tedious? Washed out colors? The actress playing Ariel was great, but the movie was totally devoid of any of the joy or fun of the original. And like we got about 24 mins into the movie and just did the Netflix scan to the last scenes. It was just blah. It’s sad that Disney just made these live action films to keep the copyright longer, they didn’t give a darn about making a movie that folks would enjoy…
The Little Mermaid, stage version, has some great versions of the well known songs but I was rather taken with Ursula's new song - I Want the Good Times Back. The added songs for characters such as Flounder, Scuttle and Eric are also good fun even if none of them quite hit the mark.
I’ve watched #TheLittleMermaid more times than I can count and yet it’s only now, when seeing the live action version, that it occurs to me how utterly batshit it was that Prince Eric set FIREWORKS off from his WOODEN SHIP?!
Why are you bringing fireworks anyway, your majesty? Your vessel is made of flammable material and you’re already carrying gunpowder. You don’t need the extra headache, sire! Use that space for like… limes to prevent scurvy or something?
I enjoyed The Little Mermaid. No more, no less.

"Part of Your World" is a song written by lyricist #HowardAshman and composer #AlanMenken for #Disney's animated feature #film #TheLittleMermaid (1989). Performed by American actress and singer #JodiBenson in the #titularRole as #Ariel, a mermaid princess, "Part of Your World" is a #powerBallad in which the main character expresses her strong desire to become human.
Far too many grown-ass men care far too much about movies made for little girls.
"Kiss the Girl" is a song written by lyricist #HowardAshman and composer #AlanMenken for #WaltDisneyPictures' 28th animated feature film #TheLittleMermaid (1989). Originally recorded by American actor #SamuelWright in his film role as #Sebastian, "Kiss the Girl" is a romantic #calypso #loveSong; the song's lyrics encourages Prince Eric to kiss Ariel before it's too late. "Kiss the Girl" had a mostly positive reception. The song was nominated for both an #Academy.

The atrociously awful Ursula casting of The Little Mermaid (2023) is by far the worst part of an otherwise pretty good film. It is kinda incredible how terrible a casting decision they made for that one character, while hitting most of the other characters spot on (epically Ariel). 🧜♀️
Yesterday in Copenhagen. It started raining heavily so we just went back to the hotel after visiting Christiania and spent time there and at the playground nearby.
Denmark is really fun for kids. Every place has games or top-of-the-art playgrounds to entertain the little ones.
Today we arrived near Billund. We're so ready for Legoland tomorrow!
Okay, so I haven't seen the Little Mermaid (not because I'm buying into the racist, manufactured “outrage”, but I just haven't gotten to it or really any of the modern remakes yet). I do believe that birds don't typically survive underwater. Is this bird drowning in the promotional shots? 😉
Watching #TheLittleMermaid for the FOURTH time. Obv. this is the 2023 new version. Recently released on streaming.
There's a good chance I might be a homosexual.
It’s clear #thelittlemermaid is fundamentally a cautionary tale about the ways biometric authentication is vulnerable to social engineering for carrying out identity theft.
At the theatre complex I was at last night, there was also a display for #TheLittleMermaid . I hadn't seen the film yet last time I was there so I didn't look at it much. This time I did and saw that they had a couple of costumes. Cool.
My pic of Eric's costume had a reflection of a poster for another movie smack dab in the middle. I blurred it out because I found it distracting.
Did you see #TheLittleMermaid at the Grove this weekend?
If so, Halle Bailey might have been part of your world. https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/movies/story/2023-05-30/halle-bailey-little-mermaid-screening-the-grove #press
The three new songs in the new #TheLittleMermaid were ok but didn't wow me. I really missed Howard Ashman, so I especially appreciated the additional credit to him. Definite recommend. 2/2
Went to see the new #TheLittleMermaid today, and I really enjoyed it. It's my second favorite of the live action re-imaginings of Disney animated films. (My favorite is Mulan.) I laughed, and I cried, and it was a lot of fun to watch. It was also pretty intense in parts. The cinematography was gorgeous.
#HalleBailey is really amazing and has a wonderful voice. The rest of the cast is also top-notch all around. Ursula has, I think, cemented herself as my favorite Disney villain. 1/2
Got back from the theatre to see #TheLittleMermaid with the kiddo.
It’s mostly in-line with the storyline, and the “live action” nature of it adds to the story. There’s more emotion in this which you only interpolate from the animated version.
The music is amazing (though Prince Eric had a solo which I would have cut)
“She had a thing for those sailors, and they had a thing for her. Unfortunately, humans didn’t last long in her element.”
I’m very happy and a little proud that inbetween other projects, I finally managed to board with #Mermay!
Yesterday’s #Sailor theme was so inspiring that I’m already trying to find time for another….
Since it's a day ending in "y," fun with racist trolls. (And why I usually ignore audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes/Metacritic/IMDB.)
The Little Mermaid Swims To $164M Global Bow, Hit By Review Bombing Overseas – Deadline
Many #Autistic #Elder #Women who spent much of their lives #Masking, as well as those of us of any gender with #EatingDisorders might identify with a passage at the end of the original story of #TheLittleMermaid
by Hans Christian Andersen.
I know I do. I'll be quoting the passage in a reply to this post.
The new film ends in a very satisfying but different way: romantic love between humans and merpeople is possible, but the bonds of family are just as strong. Oh and by the way, just go and see it on the big screen. Worth it at any price.
But for those of us who found something to identify with in the predicament of the "fish out of water" who could not speak to explain herself or her importance... well, a lot of us don't make it to the age I have. I am blessed to have arrived at something like what's described below, but rest assured I'm still alive and kicking.
After backlash from fans, Disney has decided not to remove "Howard" from its streaming service. The movie is a documentary about lyricist Howard Ashman, the gay man who co-wrote the songs for Disney’s "Little Mermaid" animated movie. The move was considered particularly egregious since it was planned for the eve of both the release of the live-action "Little Mermaid" and LGBTQ+ Pride Month.
Disney's "The Little Mermaid" is about to make its big-screen debut — only it's not a debut but rather a second (or third or fourth or fifth) act. Vox's Alissa Wilkinson looks at whether there's such a thing as a new idea these days, and if that's even what we're looking for. "Or do we yearn for the ability to be surprised, to fall in love with new versions of old stories that speak to our time?" she wonders.
"At my #GotGVol3 screening they played the transformers and little mermaid trailers at the same time and they synced up perfectly"
Several new look #character #posters have also dropped, so it’s time to very scientifically rank them based on some very specific criteria: how much #fun I think these #characters would be in a #Gay (Or Lesbian) Bar.

And because representation in pop culture helps young people to see & develop their potential, she's crowdfunding to bring 1000 girls to theatrical screenings of Disney's live-action film "The Little Mermaid," which features the first Black portrayal of Ariel. #TheLittleMermaid #BlackInSTEM
