#LibreWolf is great. I currently use it along with #Firefox #Tor and #Brave. Testing out the #Mullvad browser currently and it seems to be a solid choice. But I prefer them all to compartmentalize.

#tor using a pool of proxies to give a different ip addr to every #http request , so that isnt a reliable way to trace ip :D

On Wednesday, I went from Copenhagen to Malmö to meet with my colleagues Georg and @ggus to look into upcoming #tor work.

While on the train, I managed to get Tor to build against Google's BoringSSL library as its TLS implementation. This gave me access to the post-quantum X25519Kyber768Draft00 (0x6399) key agreement for Tor's TLS layer.

I got it to work well enough to run a small "vanilla" bridge on my local laptop and connect to it using the new PQ TLS handshake from a Tor bridge client.

Account isolation doesn’t just have to be on the device level, but can also be done on the software level like the #browser.

The benefit of using multiple browsers is that #cookies cannot cross browsers: making the pesky #trackers be browser bound and making browser fingerprinting harder to achieve. This will give oneself an edge on personal data protection.

Some browsers have the option to use containers, though it can feel like the overview is quickly lost and potentially it could be a bigger strain on the device.

Usaba #FDroid para descargarlas.

Finalmente, descargaba Signal Messenger de su sitio directamente como apk.

Me gustaba la experiencia. En la mayor parte, todo funciona.

I road the whole online #privacy, and Linux train wagon.

ranging from

#vpns local #encryption *tying* out #tor and #proxyservers

to

switching away to #Ubuntu into something called #BodhiLinux and changing the desktop manager to a window manager called #openbox and using a separate taskbar called #tint2 and setting it to always load the task bar on start up along with openbox to improve os performance.

1. I'd rather use Chrome anyday then #Firefox despite the privacy benefits, because Firefox just isn't really as optimised and performing as Chrome beause most sites are designed for Chrome.

2. To avoid the social embassment of being a computer geek, when you go out your house and are using Firefox you might think your cool but must normal people will likely be like; 'what's a firefox?' but if you talk about chrome they'l more likely know about it. They'l respect you more, and you go up the social ladder, and not down. Same logic is applied to #linux .

3. I don't use #windows because while it is commonly used, no one actually likes it, or respects it including normal users. It is a laughing stock. while #Chromebook is an os for the most popular browser, while also being rid of ads, supports #android apps, and #Linux apps, and is easy to access and use. #chromeos

these three reasons has helped me to make the decision to stick with #Google Chrome browser and Chromebooks.

Why do I use #mastodon ? because when I use social media online i'm not usually talking with people in real life so to me it doesn't impact my #socialcircle, but at the same time I do learn stuff I other wise wouldn't as likely on other social platforms. So it's worth the #investment of my time.

Very nearly have the #partyon mastodon instance working over tor. noticed an oversight in the mastodon docs. They don't mention this, but you have to be sure to add the onion address to `env.production` using the `ALTERNATE_DOMAINS` variable.

In today's edition of "i cannot believe you are making me defend this company", I have some things to say about #tor.

Yes, it is extremely fucked that whoever the hell at tor (i hope just the fundraising dept but the rot is probably a lot deeper) is doing cryptocurrency/web3 crap. There's not enough much to say about it it's so foolish and indicative of how the wrong people are setting the agenda of tech. Yes tor, like many other key pieces of web tech (eg gps, arpanet) was developed by the us military and we should be suspicious of how it orders and controls the way people use the web and connect with each other.

But tor as a technology has been audited and is trusted and used by people from pretty much all political positions and by nation states at (cold) war with the us. The people who developed the encryption algorithms we use to keep any data safe ever were probably fucked too. But like, the science/maths/logic checks out. The company tor being fucked isn't a good reason to stop using tor or reconsider starting. Tor is a technology that lowers the amount of trust you need in the network you're using to browse the internet by encrypting traffic and passing it through a bunch of nodes that don't (can't) trust each other. You can check their source code and many auditors with vastly opposing interest have. Yes it's not perfect and there are ways of extremely resourced actors sometimes lucking out and getting data, but it's hard, and every actor trying that sabotages the efforts of any actor that doesn't want to share data with them (eg china has a third of the "key" and the us has another third and they don't want to collaborate to find out what the data is, because it could for eg be the name of a chinese/american spy and they won't know til after they share). It is the best humanity has been able to come up with for hiding your activity online.

Now let me ask you, though. let's say you're a resourced authoritarian state(s), possibly in cahoots with the tor company, and you want to selectively expose leftist internet activity. Can you think of a better way of doing that than creating an ideological crisis of trust in the technology that best conceals them? Perhaps by creating non-infrastructure-compromising associations with technologies and institutions that are despised almost exclusively by the left, like web3/cryptocurrency? That way, everyone else can keep using the technology that keeps them safe, but leftists essentially unmask themselves because the mask is unethically produced. You don't end up backdooring your tech and getting all your overseas spies killed, you don't have to collaborate with enemy states in ways that require you gambling on whose secrets you're decrypting, you just get the leftists to, on principle and out of uninformed paranoia, decrypt all their own shit by uninistalling or not installing tor and announcing their internet activity to their isp/vpn provider. Genius!

This isn't a just-use-tor post; it's not going to be achievable for everyone and it's not the right solution to every privacy concern (please don't use bittorrent through tor lol, it slows it down for everyone), there ARE much EASIER and more achievable and high priority privacy changes for many people, but I think if you're spreading unfounded suspicion of tor the TECHNOLOGY you are potentially being hoodwinked and definitely endangering people who might otherwise use this tool. This does not mean you shouldn't go after the company or keep an eye out for future security audits, though, because the direction they're taking is really foolish and suspicious.
