One of my favorite night images of Amtrak's Coast Starlight at Klamath Falls. This is a service stop for the train, so it lingers for about 30 minutes, long enough to get out and stretch your legs and make a few photographs.

My pillaging visit to Malmö SJ #FirstClass lounge was successful what it comes to #FreeStuff: mozzarella salad and a lovely piece of kladdkaka. I could have loitered there for a bit longer: the train to Copenhagen didn't arrive, nor did it leave, for that matter. No explanations provided. The next one came pretty soon so no reason for a tantrum, I'm afraid.

Oh, Belgium, never change!
Yesterday, while travelling from Leiden to Louvain-la-Neuve, my train to Brussels was delayed due to a passenger picking a fight with another passenger sitting a few rows in front of me. Made my connection to Ottignies only just. That train was also delayed, so I missed my connection to Louvain-la-Neuve.
Later, on the way from LLN to Leuven, there were people on the tracks in Ottignies, so there were no trains to or from Ottignies. We managed to catch a bus from LLN to Wavre, where we waited for quite a while for a delayed train to take us to Heverlee.
Today, while I was on the train from Leuven to Liège, I found out that my train to Maastricht was cancelled, then found out that it was uncancelled again 😅 #train #trains #travel #belgium #TrainTravel #Leuven #LouvainLaNeuve #Liege

I briefly considered asking the elderly man who was painfully slowly making his way to the very end of platform 4/5 with his stroller if he needed help but didn’t because I sensed he knew where he was going. Trying to decide if I should take this journey in Nov or Dec. In Nov I had booked myself 4 days of leave. In December I have a week. Instead of stopping at Taiping, however, I'll be going on to Penang. It feels like it needs more than a week to do. Shifting some of my leave to Dec feels like a good idea.

Back in Perth after a very enjoyable trip to Bunbury. So glad I got to ride on these railcars before it was too late.
Spain: we want people to switch from flying to trains for long journeys.
But a spontaneous 39 minute trip from the city to a village and hiking centre in the mountains? Just because it is a sunny Saturday morning and you happen to have some free time? Better have a private car, because there are no buses, and the train may well be full, and even if you'd be fine with standing for 39 minutes we won't let you.
The Australind at Bunbury Passenger Terminal, ready to run the 14:45 service back to Perth.
These two cars are the only available Australind railcars remaining, with the spare ADP driving car and all three ADQ trailers unserviceable. The class will be retired after the last service on Friday, with new railcars to be introduced when the line reopens in 2025.

As our Grainlander train pulled into Melbourne's Southern Cross Station last night, I spotted the Overland heading the other way. Presumably off to its stable for the night.
I was surprised (not positively) by how hard it is to get back home to #Vlissingen from #Utrecht by #TrainTravel after 22h in the evening.
You basically have one (1) shot going to #DenBosch to change to #Roosendaal and then to #Vlissingen
@hans will arrive there in about 5 minutes from now. That a 3 hour travel!
And if you miss any connection you will be stranded.
This train still smells like freshly built leather seats. Though it’s probably not real leather. #TrainTravel

The lights in first class in Copenhagen - Hamburg train don't quite work. It's either sitting in the shades or moving to second class.
It's actually quite cosy here, in the dim glow of emergency lights and people's phones.

The stripes obscure the stitch pattern a bit, but it will look better when worn.
Just booked a trip to London (from Berlin). BA cost me 250€ return. Sleeper train would have cost 850€. That's just too much, even in return for doing my bit towards saving the planet :(

@budgetduurzaam een directe verbinding tussen Amsterdam en Copenhagen maakt je vooral veel minder afhankelijk van het op tijd rijden van de treinen in Duitsland.
Van mij mag de reistijd hetzelfde blijven als je weet dat je geen aansluiting hoeft te halen en het dus niet 4 uur later wordt omdat je een aansluiting mist.

It's just announced that the train 525 from Stockholm to Copenhagen is going to Copenhagen. In my experience, this usually means it's terminating in Malmö. Oh, the suspense!

It was not that long ago, before the bogie and the EU, that we had to exit the narrow-gauge Spanish train at Cerbère, go through immigration and customs in the dead of night in the middle of nowhere, and then board a French train to Paris.

VR, the Finnish railways will buy new rolling stock, where they can take out chairs in summer time to give space to 20 bikes per train. Would love to have this in the Netherlands too, as bringing your bike is too limited in Summer time.
