Now onto some technical details. Don't buy the hype of hydrogen or battery powered trains - both techs are unproven, expensive, and have limited range.
Just go with overhead wires. This tech has a 100+ year track record and thousands of miles in service around the world.
Compared to battery or hydrogen, electrification using overhead wires is twice as energy efficient.

Had to drive to Carson City for a doctor's appointment today. I was running ahead of schedule so I took a "scenic" route between Washoe Valley & Carson Valley. In Northern Nevada you see lots of old farm equipment, horse drawn wagons, and mining equipment in people's yards, but I've never seen a caboose. On a side note, I once seriously considered buying a caboose to use as a primary residence. I thought it would be fun to have an office in the cupola!

Planning will get underway for a daily run of the Amtrak Cardinal route through Indiana. The Cardinal runs from Cincinnati to Chicago with stops in Indianapolis, Lafayette, and other towns.

One of my favorite night images of Amtrak's Coast Starlight at Klamath Falls. This is a service stop for the train, so it lingers for about 30 minutes, long enough to get out and stretch your legs and make a few photographs.

For Thanksgiving travels me and my gf rode Amtrak from Boston to Richmond and back. It was about 12 hours each way. But compared to flying it was a lot cheaper, the seats were much better, and the food/drink was somewhat less worse. Plus there was none of that security theater nonsense to endure.
I spend most of everyday on my butt anyway so whether it be a couch, desk chair, cafe chair, or train seat makes little difference to me.
My suggestion on how to improve public #transport in #London and elsewhere
• More bus lanes, priority schemes,
• Transit schemes from the 2000s,
• Speedbus proposal from the 1970s,
• revert to the pre-1970 area…

Train O' Lights, Virginia City, Nevada (12/2//2023). I went up to VC today hoping to get some photos of the steam engine adorned in holiday lights. But they ran the diesel instead of the steam engine. Turned out it was a big party up there tonight. There was a parade & fireworks as well! I have a few more keepers to post. I thought this shot turned out interesting. Not everyday you get to shoot a colorfully lit train passing by.
